24 Broken Amps - Mind Matters
24 Broken Amps recently sent us through a copy of their latest track, Mind Matters, to check out to see what we thought. Seeing as we featured them a while back, how could I resist the chance to hear what they’d been up to since then?!
Powerful, fast and straight to the point, this is the sort of track which you want to get out and see live, the sort of track which is going to whip a live venue into a frenzy and send everyone a little bit mad. Somehow keeping a sense of catchiness running through things as well as the power, what you’ve got here is a track which combines all of the influences of the band and crafts a well formed rock/punk track – one which is going to re-energise the music scene and make everyone sit up and take note of what’s coming out of Ireland at the moment. Personally, I think the track shows a level of progression in the band, suggesting that their work has paid off and they’re continuing to develop their own style and ability – definitely one to check out if you get a chance!
24 Broken Amps are a damned hard working band, always working to achieve the next level and give their fans what they want. If you’re looking for music which is going to invigorate you and remind you why you listen to rock, then this is the band for you – and this latest track is further testament to that! This is a track you need to hear – so get out and check it out!

24 Broken Amps - Burst The Bubble
We featured 24 Broken Amps a while back and loved what we heard, so when they dropped us a line about their new track, Burst The Bubble, we jumped at the chance to check out what they had been up to. Due to be released ‘soon’, we thought we’d better let the world know about what’s going on!
From the opening licks on the guitar through to the bass heavy rhythms that follow, this is a track which demonstrates a band who have been working to develop their own sound! Fast paced and raw from the outset, the track verges on the punkier side of things whilst still managing to add in more distorted power than you can shake a stick at. Bass heavy rhythms add a sense of funkiness to things, keeping the track moving throughout and suggesting that this is going to be one which absolutely kills on the live scene. Add in a guitar solo to show off what the band can do as a unit and what you’ve got here is a track which is going to take you back to your youth, remind you of why you started listening to this sort of music and once again, generate that feeling of excitement about the music scene.
I’ve liked 24 Broken Amps since they first got in touch with us, so I was pretty chuffed when they dropped me a line again about this track, but best of all, I’ve not been disappointed! Once again the band have demonstrated their absolute power, crafting a track which is going to make more and more people want to hear these guys live and showing off just how tight a unit they really are. I can’t wait to get out and see these guys live, so take my advice and jump on board!

24 Broken Amps
According to their bio: 24 Broken Amps are an out-and-out grunge/punk band that have stomped into the space where no-one was treading in a scene that's been deadening under the lightweight of jangly indie synthy stuff. Delving into the past for moods where needed, and into presentlives for inspiration, they have unashamedly set themselves apart from those around, spilling an energetic buzz, at once melodious and caustic. With a slew of headline gigs plus 2fm and Phantom FM airplay under their hats, 24BA are rocking it right out, right now in your town. Now, based on that AND their 3,334 fans on FB, I was looking forward to checking these guys out!
As I clicked play on first track Slug, I suddenly realised why, it kicks in with slamming guitars, pounding drums and spitting vocals. At first the guitar lines seem to clash with one another but when you listen properly it suddenly dawns on you that this sound is so huge and so loud that you are only just getting used to it. The chorus is catchy and will have you nodding along after a couple of times without a doubt, but what is really striking is the vocals. The vocals are somehow clean and dirty at the same time – the sound harks back to old school punk style stuff at times but seems to push boundaries at the same time – and that’s just the first track! I found myself still chanting that there is no f*****g hope as the track ended!
As Ticket Home kicks in though everything calms a little – for about 10 seconds. This track lures you into a sense of safety before once again throwing you through a window as it kicks in. Relying heavily on the bass to lead this track, the sound created is deeper than the last track somehow, still retaining that raw energy and punky/grungy edge but sounding more refined. Effect laden guitars continue to build the track as it grows ever more throughout whilst keeping that bass line going all along, it’s almost hypnotic by the end of the track. I think this is my personal favourite track from the selection, there’s something about it which I really connected with as I listened to it – whether it’s the layered instruments or sheer power of the combination I don’t know but it’s a huge track!
Tiny Little Archer follows on, opening fast from the outset, this track returns to that grungy edge once again. Still using the bass as the backing, the chuggy guitar line helps build the track before kicking in to the chorus section and gathering that catchy momentum once again. Pulling in a guitar solo for good measure, this track is so energetic and fast paced that come the end of it you find yourself questioning how on earth this band can perform live – they must be knackered by the end of a show! The result of their efforts though backs up what they said in their bio, they are filling a space where there was no one before and they’re doing it well.
Final track Sore-Throat opens much more grungy than the others, opting for a slightly slower pace but retaining all of those guitars, drums and bass which we’ve come to expect, all backing up those incredible vocals once again. This track is more classically grunge if you like – it’s got all of the elements you would expect but seems to take a fresh approach to them all, thus creating this unique sound which I’ve come to expect from 24BA.
Trying to summarise 24 Broken Amps is a difficult one, they incorporate so many styles, all of which work together to create a massive sound which whilst sounding fresh, still brings back those memories of grunge and punk. I would love to see these guys live, just to see whether they can back up these recordings on the live stage – something I am sure they’ll do with ease!
