Acolourfall
We were recently contacted by Acolourfall recently to let us know about some of their tracks and to see what we thought of things. Stating that they’re an alternative/post grunge metal band for fans of Deftones, Sevendust, Fear Factory and A Perfect Circle, this was a band I was looking forward to hearing. Going on to say that their music is full of catchy choruses and drop tuned and heavy riffs, I couldn’t wait to hit play to check things out.
The first track I came to was Me Now, a track which opens with a sludgy guitar line over pounding drums before moving into a more restrained section musically in order to fully accentuate the raspy vocal lines. Hard hitting from the off, this is a track which straight away demonstrates these guys mean business, opening with a heavy sound and not relenting until the moment the track comes to a close. Moving on from the heaviness, there’s also a definite sense of melody running through the track, something which keeps you listening and wondering as to what’s going to come next. To me, this track sounds similar to the sort of thing which was coming out in the early 2000’s, taking a sense of metal and changing it into their own sound, a sound which is due for a revival any day now.
Monster continues the hard hitting and heavy sound, this time opening with a galloping beat which is going to get everyone moving along from the off. Combining this beat with a soaring lead line, the track gets going and once again pulls you in, forcing you reach for that volume up button and making sure you’re there for the entire ride. There’s something catchy about this track once again, crafting a sound which is going to find its full potential on the live scene. Not for the kids, the vocals are more aggressive this time around, adding in a sense of emotion which is going to really whip up live crowds and get them on side – you can almost sense the power of the track as it plays out.
Closing the selection with Satellite there’s another demonstration of just why you need to make sure you check out Acolourfall. The sound on this final track demonstrates the crossing of sounds which the band discussed in their bio, crafting a sound which somehow combines the raw power of Fear Factory with the aggression and emotional backing of Deftones, somehow managing to turn it into a sound which almost verges on punk from time to time. Personally, this was my favourite track from the selection as it has that live feel to it, almost as if it’s been underproduced to capture the true sound of the band and show off what they can do meaning that when you listen to it, you can’t help but feel a part of it.
Acolourfall are one of those bands that rarely appear, the sort of band that isn’t afraid to do what they want to do, crafting their own sound as they go without listening to what other bands are doing. I love the lack of production on the tracks as what you get here is a sound which sounds like the band rather than a producer, it’s just real. Certainly a band I’ll be looking to hear more from, this is one you need to check out!
