Actions
We were recently sent through details of Actions, a female fronted powerpop quartet hailing from the South Coast of the UK. Due to release their new single, South Of The Water, on 21st of May, the band are drawing influence from all sorts of directions including Blink 182, Jessie J and Pink to create their own brand of rock pop. As such, I figured it was only right I check out the fresh and vibrant take on rock coming from these guys.
Opening with soft and soothing vocals, the sound coming from this band is one which is going to immediately grab your attention and make you wonder what’s coming next. The soft vocals add a sense of reflective calm to proceedings, whilst the upbeat backing track adds a further depth to things, developing this into an infectiously catchy track, and one which stands out as something quite unique. Demonstrating their influences from various directions, there’s a sense that this is a pop version of a rock song, somehow remaining calm yet throwing out a sense of tempo which is going to get you moving. The whole mix is one which means this band will stand out as a force to be reckoned with, one which can get airplay on major stations yet at the same time, still connect with their base rock audience.
One Minute Smile continues this idea, starting more upbeat than the last track yet still somehow retaining that sense of pop calmness. There’s a really fresh feeling to things with this track as well, somehow combining the rock elements with the softer vocals to form a sound which is new, exciting and one which is going to get a lot of people moving towards the punk-pop style movement which seems to be coming back. Catchy once again, what this track goes to show is that this is a band which can not only throw out raucous tracks, but also tracks which are sublime and calming, all the time remaining catchy and to the point.
Actions are going to be a band to keep an eye out for, their sound is one which will appeal to fans of pop-punk and the softer side of rock alike, whilst still having enough of the pop to make the tracks accessible to newer fans. In all, this is going to be a moment which pushes the band out to a new audience, one which gets them some more recognition and one which I advise you to check out.
