Avenged Sevenfold
Avenged Sevenfold are one of those bands that seem to divide opinions amongst people, with some thinking they’re amazing, and others saying they’re generic and boring. Personally, I’ve always liked their music and, having seen them live a couple of times, rate them amongst some of the better live bands out there on the scene. Obviously since the death of The Rev, things have been a little quiet, but they’re back with a new track and a new video to back it up. Those of you who have played Call Of Duty Black Ops II will have already come across the video the track Carry On, but for those of you who have yet to see it, let’s have a look at what’s on offer.
Now – I’ve not played any of the COD games but the opening moments of the video focus on the characters from the game before bringing in the band in digital form. Building and building up until the band take the stage in front of a digital audience, the track finally breaks and we’re launched into A7X goodness. Hammering onwards with pummelling drums, intricate lead lines and those signature, gravelly vocals – it’s an Avenged Sevenfold track from the word go, and one which fans are going to love. Bas heavy rhythms from Johnny Christ combine with the intricate guitar work from Synyster Gates and Zacky Vengeance whilst M Shadows leads us through the track, offering up their signature catchy chorus approach and showing us that despite the loss of one of their brothers in arms, A7X are back and are looking stronger than ever.
As I say, there are those out there who aren’t fans of A7X, and that’s only natural, but what I like is that despite the doubters, the band have stuck to their guns and continued to produce the music they want to write and want to play. The guys have said the new album is going to have more of a classic feel to it, and listening to this track you can hear certain influences coming through it. The guitar work has that signature tone but the vocals are developed, fresh and tighter than ever. I for one will be looking forward to checking out what’s coming up from the new record and of course, some live dates!
