Bison BC
I love it when an expressive press release comes in, so when I read the following, I was pretty damned impressed!
In the great Canadian spirit of loss and heart ache, the downer foursome known as Bison B.C. have managed to scourge their rotting brains desperately puking out new psalms of suffering. Akin to a lunatic writing their opus on the bedroom wall with their own shit comes this strange noise from the west coast melting pot of shit and failure; in a country based on terrifying distance and lonesome, stoic suffering. Lovelessness does not portray the death of love or the lack of the same. Rather it attempts to map out the pathetic and desperate pursuit of love, which in itself becomes violent like a cancer, an assault on anything that is good in the world. A heartfelt repulsion towards anything that could bring pleasure, because with happiness we suffer truly – the wanting of more. Gluttons! Pigs to the trough! Lead us to treachery! Lead us to solitude!
So……there’s not a lot I can say which leads on from that, other than we were sent through a link to the new track from Canadian based Bison BC, entitled Last and First Things
As you might expect, the track begins in somewhat of a heavy manner, building up the tension through the dark opening moments of it before descending into a down tuned, sludgy melee of bass and guitars. The mix which forms here is a musical representation of the bands outlook on things, showing their dark side and showing, through their music, that it is possible to convey a message of distain and rebellion through a simple piece of music. Don’t be deceived into thinking this track is simple mind as it’s far from it, building into a track which is fringed with dark elements, built with distortion and fuelled by the desire to stand out from the crowd by being different, standing alone and doing what they want to do. Soaring guitar lines bound over the sludgy bass and drum combination resulting in a track that’s heavy, powerful and raw from start to finish – in short, a hell of a track!
We also got put onto their track Anxiety Puke/Lovelessness, the video for which can be seen below and the title track of their latest record. This is another track built around power, distortion, and the ability to craft a track designed to get inside your head and make you question what you’re hearing. Heavy from start to finish, personally, this is my preferred track of the two, and one to make sure you check out below.
I went into these tracks really not knowing what to expect, and what I came across wasn’t what I was expecting, and in fact as a lot more technical and well put together. The message behind Bison BC may be one which refuses to move with the conventions of society, or to buy into their ideologies, but their music is far more accessible if you like the heavier stuff. This is a band to keep an eye on I think – see what you reckon of the video below!
