Black Crickets
Remo from Norway based Black Crickets recently got in touch about their music to see if we could sort something out for them. Ever the helpful types that we are, we thought it only right we check out what they had on offer! Originally started in the summer of 2010, the guys worked to find a drummer before finally discovering one in June of 2011.Shortly after they recorded their single, so we thought we’d best check out what sort of sound these guys are going for!
Green Cargo hints at an almost Muse like sound, opening with a sludgy bass behind soaring front music. The drums are kept relatively simple throughout but this helps to further push the music forward, allowing you to hear everything that’s going on and making you listen to every single element. Verging on the ‘indie’ style of things in their sound, there’s moments here which hark towards Muse, others which hark towards the White Stripes and other moments which suggest an almost Jimi Hendrix like guitar style, it’s a clever mix which works well. Catchy and raw throughout, this track hasn’t got the best production to it, but that almost gives it a more authentic sound, making it almost sound like the band are in the same room as you playing for your own private pleasure.
Empty Room continues the rough sound which these guys have got, this time approaching the track with a mix of upbeat tempos and more laid back moments, al working together to craft a sound which is made for the live scene, one which is going to get you moving and singing along with them. Catchy once again, there’s a real mix of the rough with the commercial going on here, suggesting that, with some cleaning up and production, this could be the sort of track which is heard on the radio. Throwing out a chorus which is going to get everyone singing along, this is a track which almost eclipses the previous one, giving you a moment which you’ll be humming for days to come after hearing it!
I normally associate Norway with Black and Death metal, so to hear something like the Black Crickets is quite interesting as it shows that there is a firm music industry over there. Adopting a sound akin to the indie bands of around 2003/2004, these guys have managed to take that sound and make it sound new and fresh, somehow taking it to a new level and making it something purely based around enjoyment. I look forward to hearing what else these guys can come up with and how their style develops in the future as based on this, it promises to be pretty bright!
