Black Page Turns
Leicester based Black Page Turns are embarking on the ambitious project this year of releasing 1 track each month, something which is going to take a fair amount of work and dedication! That said, they got in touch recently about the first of their tracks, Things That Make Us Hate – so I figured the least I could do was have a listen!
Powerful catchy hooks seem to be something which come naturally to these guys, immediately opening with a dark yet accessible sound, drawing you in before upping the pace and setting onwards on what can only be described as a hybrid of Industrial Rock combined with Stadium Rock – it’s not something I ever thought I’d see but these guys have indeed managed it. Catchy throughout, full of intricate guitar lines which would leave Maiden standing looking on in envy, these guys seem to have discovered some sort of rosetta stone of music, managing to craft a track which makes you want to jump around like a lunatic whilst still singing along to every single word of the track. Sure, there are going to be people that say this is ‘commercial’ rock, but to them I would simply say that all commercial means is people buying the track!
Black Page Turns seem to have managed to create a sound here which is going to appeal to a hell of a lot of people, sounding like a cross between the likes of Bon Jovi and Nine Inch Nails (I think it was the vocals at times). What I like is how they’ve developed their own style, approaching the track in their own way and not letting influence dictate how it should or shouldn’t be done – the sound you get here is Black Page Turns, no one else, nothing else – just a group of guys who understand what they’re doing and have set out to change the world – and you know what – they might just do it.
