Bloodgeon
3 piece death metal outfit Bloodgeon from Minneapolis, Minnesota have been in touch about their music so we could get a review up and posted. Stating on their website that they strive to make the highest quality, no apologies death metal possible without compromising on intensity, sounds promising!
Opening with Agenda, straight away you realise these guys mean business and back up their words with actions. Ramming their message down your throat from the outset this is full on intense death metal from start to finish. Sludgy guitars are backed by rolling drums, slamming bass and some of the most insane roaring vocals creating a solid chunky feel throughout, if you want heavy then these guys are for you. At no point during this track is there any release from the grip which this band take on you, they’ve got your attention and they use it throughout ramming Agenda down your throat and forcing you to enjoy it.
Self Proclaimed Righteousness follows on continuing the insane rampage. Heavy and intense from the second it starts this track is slightly slower than the one before, but this only serves to make it sound even more solid. Insane riffs jump about on some of the best drumming I’ve heard in a while whilst the vocals take the lead, the sound created is one which will have you smashing the place up before you’ve even realised you’re doing it. Rampaging onwards into Shackled the band continue their take no prisoners approach, slowing things down to a sludgy roar and throwing more riffs and double bass rolls at you. This track is my personal favourite from the selection on the bands reverbnation page as it shows how intense these guys really are. I’ve heard bands before who claim to be death metal but don’t come close, this is the real deal and is not to be messed with – this music is not for the faint hearted but believe me, it’s incredible to listen to.
False God follows on with a roll of the drums followed by some insane riffing on the guitars before kicking into an insanely paced section, again there isn’t a second of relief from these guys. The sheer energy from the band even on a recording is testament to their ability, they can play death metal and they can play it well. I can imagine this track is awesome live, it’s fast, heavy and dirty, it’ll get throngs of people moving along to it ripping the venue to pieces.
Final track Condemned As Punished leaves you with no doubt that what you’ve just heard has been one of the most insane experiences of your life. Riffs explode all around you, drums roll around in the background all backed by a solid bass line. The vocals, raw as ever continue to bellow out at you thrusting the mix of raw energy and downright pure metalness into your face, words cannot express the insanity of this track or how awesome it is to hear.
All too often people put death metal down saying it’s too much and they don’t get it, but I’ve always been able to listen to it for what it is, music! These guys have taken the genre and pushed it, adding their own unique take to it through the drums and guitars, the mix created is both insane and accessible at the same time. I for one would love to see them live to experience the energy live as if the recording is anything to go by, it must be epic.
