Bloodtruth
So we were recently sent through the promo from Perugia (Italy) based brutal death metal outfit, Bloodtruth, to see what we thought of things. Formed in 2011 thanks to Stefano Rossi Ciucci and Giacomo Torti before taking on board Riccardo Rogari and Luigi Valenti, the guys have released their promo and are now on the lookout for a label to distribute their first full length album – so we thought we’d see what things were sounding like so far!
Opening with Coerced To Serve we’re led into the track with a choral vocal line, the sound coming as somewhat of a shock initially seeing as I was expecting brutal death metal – and then it breaks. Launching us headfirst into a pit of all out power, distortion and heaviness, the track soon adopts a style that is sure to get pits moving, venues shaking, and people running for their lives – this is full on brutal death metal done in the heaviest possible sense. Rolling drums combine with chunky guitar lines, pounding bass rhythms and guttural vocals, the mix coming across as distorted yet with an edge of funkiness thrown into the mix, the sort of thing which will push this to a new level on the live scene. Raw and non stop from start to finish, this opening track certainly showcases the style of the band, showing us what we can expect from them, and showing that when it comes to heavy, these guys can do heavy.
It’s no surprise then that second track Suppurating of Deception is once again massively heavy, opening with a sludgy guitar line backed up by more of those pounding rhythm elements, continuing to push the boundaries of heavy from start to finish. This track is another one which is going to find its full force on the live scene, the sort of thing that will get pits going across the venue, make people want to get out to see them live, and convince the world that death metal is back and a force to be reckoned with. Somehow managing to combine the hard hitting death metal edge with more monastic chanting, this track holds a few surprises but nothing detracts from the all out power of things here, it’s a track which isn’t for the fainthearted, but is sure to satisfy that heavy craving deep within you –definitely one to check out.
What I like about Bloodtruth is that they’ve taken death metal but put their own style on it, showing that it’s possible to firmly stamp your own outlook on things and produce a sound that is going to connect with people who like anything with distortion in it. Normally when it comes to death metal, and brutal death metal, I expect it to be for fans of that genre alone, but this holds an accessible edge, something which I think is going to do these guys well in the long run.
