Bludger
Another band we were put onto by Neil is Bludger from Leeds. We’ve had a listen to what they’ve got on offer so
thought we should share what we thought!
That Noise opens hard, heavy, fast and pumping, setting the standard early! As the vocals rip in the track seems to build in heaviness and darkness even further, with drums rolling, guitars hammering and vocals screaming and roaring, all at the same time – this band are here to rip your ears out and make you listen to what they’ve got to say! Breaking down briefly around 1:50, this track slows for a moment as if to let you get your breath back, then picks the pace up again and hurtles onwards towards the end, before starting all over again!
Bludger kicks off where the last left off, hard and heavy launching straight into a dark guitar riff underpinned by rolling drums and spat vocals, this track takes on a slightlier funkier edge through the voice before the double bass takes over and once again we hurtle onwards. This track has a lot of different levels, all of which say something different about the band, but all of which are equally as awesomely heavy as the last. By the time The Charmer kicks in, wondering if they can keep up this pace, but once again, it all kicks off. The track opens like the others and immediately shoves metal down your throat, you don’t choose to listen to Bludger, they force you to listen.
Final track Take Me opens dark and sludgy, the downtuned guitars and bass taking the lead before the double bass and vocals once again kick in, this is one hell of a track to end on. Heavy up to the end, as this track finished I found myself sitting back and questioning what the hell had just happened, it’s all been one hell of a sludgy metal blur.
Bludgen are heavy, and in their own words are going to come to your town, drink your beer, smoke your weed and rock out – and if they show up at my door tomorrow I’ll be sure to invite them in for a beer or three. This isn’t simply a band who play some heavy guitar and do some screaming, there’s interesting time signatures here, different levels of vocals, underpinning guitar lines which creep out of the dark at you, in short there’s a lot going on! I can only imagine what this band will be like live, but I know for sure I’ve got to check it out.
