Blue Origin
I’ve been informed on good authority that Blue Origin do Loud-Stuff and do it well…..which is awesome! As such, figured it was only fair to check them out and see what they’ve got on offer just to make sure!
As Blur The Lines kicks in you realise that this a band who know what they’re doing, opening with guitars, drums and a harmonica line before kicking into one of the heaviest Southern Rock style sections I’ve ever come across. Every instrument in the mix is audible meaning that there’s always something going on which surprises you and keeps you listening. Catchy from the outset, this is some serious music here – so I agree, they do do Loud Stuff remarkably well!
Moving onto second track Freek the band continues on their tracks of Southern style rock tinged with a heavy edge, using effects on the guitar to add extra definition to the intro. Slowly building with the guitars and vocals this track takes a while to get going, but it’s all about the suspense! Soon enough it kicks in (after one hell of a vocal by the way!) fully and powers onwards, driven by the guitars and drums once again maintaining that funky edge and heavy roots. As Freek ends and Endless kicks in the tone changes though and everything seems to soften up. Picked guitars take the lead whilst the rest of the track builds around it, becoming heavy and faster again but adding in a new emotional level to the structure. Adding in different vocals for this track creates an even bigger sound than before, keeping things heavy yet melodic throughout this track is a triumph and my favourite from the selection, there are some serious contrasts here which work incredibly well together.
Final track Hold Me Down returns the band to their funky roots again, building up with lead guitar lines, rolling drums and a slamming rhythm section – this track is one which will have live crowds moving along with the band. As a finale to the selection this is one hell of a track, it’s almost anthemic in its structure, keeping the listener engaged from start to finish whilst continuing to push the boundaries of the music they’re playing – this is a track you have to make sure you listen to!
I didn’t know what to expect from Blue Origin and I think maybe that was a good thing, it meant I went into it with no preconceptions of what to expect. As such, what I discovered surprised me in a great way – this is good time music which everyone is going to enjoy! Highly recommended.
