Bridge May Be Icy
These five guys from Plymouth, Michigan form a post hardcore band. They are all proud Christians and are influenced by all hardcore bands. There’s not too much to say about these guys, they keep their cards close to their chests, however they do like burgers and fries! Anyway here's what I thought.
Embrace The Bear was the first track I listened to. An eerie, dark, electric opening greets us, instantly plunging the tone of the track to rock bottom. There are some distorted voices filtering through the sounds in the background. These are soon are replaced by roaring vocals which push you through the ground showing you a glimpse of hell. With the introduction of the destructive drums, that added weight and volume makes the track unforgiving. Just when you think that hell itself has a grasp on you, a second set of vocals kick in adding a whole new dimension to the track. They work in tandem alongside the raw, roaring vocals and the destructive drums not to mention, the dark, moody guitar riff. I really loved this as it showed a slightly lighter side to the guys, while still keeping in with the hardcore theme. The tempo is pretty relentless all the way through the track; throwing the speed, powerful guitar riffs, thunderous drums and contrasts in vocals all together, it makes for a real rollercoaster ride.
Last but not least, I took a look at The Great White North. A totally different start to the previous track, Embrace The Bear takes you on a journey to hell, whereas with this track, you start there! A menacing introduction of purposeful guitar riffs, hammering drums and those distinctive, savage like vocals instantly put you in your place. It’s hard hitting, heavy and unforgiving. Midway through, there’s a sort of electrical solo, which if I’m honest isn't really needed and takes a little bit of edge away from the track. You go from hardcore rock to hardcore trance.... Everything else works perfectly, the second set of vocals is back adding a bit of finesse to proceedings. I liked the variation in tempo; the guys take it from the extreme fast paced nature of the track to an almost mellow, much slower paced theme.
These guys have already amassed a fair following on their Facebook page and I can see why. There’s a lot of talent coursing through the veins of all 5 members. I’m expecting big things from them but they are young and a work in progress so watch this space.
