Chasing Cadence
We were recently put on to Hertfordshire based Chasing Cadence, a band who describe their style simply as ‘rock’, and cite their band influences as ‘beer, women, games, banter, bad puns and music’, which all sound pretty cool to me. Rob from the band was kind enough to whack me through a link to check out their latest single, Young, to see what I thought of things – so I figured it was only right I see what these guys have been up to. Given that they only formed in 2011 and jumped straight into the studio to record their demo EP, and given the exposure they’ve received since that fateful moment, I was looking forward to seeing what was on offer!
Kicking off with soothing piano lines to lead us into things, there’s a real sense of build up immediately put upon the listener, almost like the opening moments are just the start of something big, powerful and impressive – and then it hits. Kicking into a powerful melee of distorted guitar work and bass heavy rhythms, the track forms into a heavy one before once again pulling back and allowing the vocals to echo out over things. Smooth and soaring vocal lines seem to contrast against the hard hitting backing music, resulting in a sound which packs a punch whilst also being accessible and the sort of thing that’s sure to get you singing along. Throwing in contrasting vocal lines to fully bolster the mix, this track is a demonstration of the ability of Chasing Cadence, showing us their understanding of their craft, their ability to perform, and the reason why we should all be sitting up and paying attention to what they’ve got going on from here onwards.
This track from Chasing Cadence is damned impressive, offering up a refined sound which manages to pack a punch to satisfy that heavy urge, whilst keeping enough melody running through things to ensure you keep listening from start to finish. Definitely a band with a hell of a lot of potential, it’ll be interesting to see what these guys come up with next as I can’t help but feel that it’ll be something we all want to hear!
