Circles
Lisa from Hold Tight PR recently sent us through the single for Australian band Circles latest release, Eye Embedded. The single I feel showcases the bands music style of combining musical inflences from bands like Periphery and TesseracT whilst drawing lyrical and vocal comparisons to the likes of Incubus and Faith N More – which to me sounds like something pretty damned awesome! Planning to get to Europe next year to share the music with the fans, this seemed like a chance to find out what’s on offer from these guys!
Two versions of Eye Embedded open, the normal version and the Big-F remix of the track. The track itself is a melee of emotional vocals and solid riffs, all underpinned by a rolling beat and heavy bass. Almost catchy as it progresses, this track is one which really hammers home the sound of the band, throwing in different elements for you to consider as it progresses from soaring lead lines to hammering riffs and then electronic sounds, just to make sure you’re not getting fed up with what’s going on. Personally, I like elements of both of the versions here, the acoustic element on the remix adds further depth to things whilst the straight forwards version hammers home the ability of the band to create a track which roves from syncopated to relatively straight forward, all the time keeping everything big and in your face, it’s a hell of an opening!
As Silence comes into being, everything seems to slow down a beat and chill out, acoustic guitars leading the way and creating an almost haunting opening to proceedings. This is all changed with another solid riff which pounds the track into being. The vocals once again really hammer home the track here, achieving notes and holding them which any lead vocalist of a band would be jealous of. Adding further layers of vocals in further adds to the track turning this into something massive, something huge and something which you’ll want to revisit time and time again. As the track fades and Beautiful Fascination comes into being, everything becomes clearer, Incubus style vocals rove around on top of a simple drum beat whilst the guitars and bass hammer out their distorted route behind everything, the sound created is massive! The real show stealer for me on this track has to be the drums though, the beat they set can at first seem relatively simple and straight forward but listen to them and all of the elements they produce, there’s so much going on that at first you don’t know where to listen. Finishing as it begins, this track is one hell of a track from a band just starting out, it’s well written and incredibly well produced.
Finishing the single is The Design, an instrumental track which seems to act as a showcase for just how able these guys are when it comes to their music and song writing. The track adopts a syncopated approach to the beat, allowing the guitars and bass to rove around on top of the rolling drums. Moving between heavily distorted sections and clean emotional snippets, this track closes the album perfectly leaving you with no doubt what so ever that these guys are on the road to success. What’s really notable is how the band can take metal riffs and add an electronic element to everything, it creates a sound which is unexpected but works – bravo!
In my opinion, this single takes you through a journey with the band. It almost develops as you progress through each track, new elements always coming into being and creating this mixture of clean and dirty, on and off beat and the most serene soaring vocals. The final product is a selection of tracks which is not only well accomplished and well produced, but is bound to be well received. There are elements here for the metal fan, elements for the prog fan, elements for the indie fan and elements for the electronic fan – so basically, this is a band for everyone! My advice – get it, listen to it, love it.
