Conan
Formed in 2007 with a unique take on Doom/Drone/Stoner metal as their outlook, Conan have won over audiences wherever they’ve played. One notable moment was of course at the Roadburn Festival in 2012 which led to a live release, “Mount Wrath: Live At Roadburn 2012”. As such, with the band about to hit the road for a tour in October of this year, there’s never been a better time to check out this Liverpool based doom powerhouse and their ‘caveman battle doom’ style of music.
With their recent 17 minute side of a split LP with Bonegripper, Beheaded, now out there and being lapped up, this is a band who don’t mess about or add in unnecessary elements to their music, instead relying on bone crushing riffery and sludgy, down tuned bass rhythms. Deep and disturbing guitar lines mix with heavy drum work, offering up an almost Black Sabbath style darkness accompanied by a heavy assed approach to doom and sludge style metal. Haunting vocal lines roar around in the background as the distorted journey leads you through their offering, leaving you powerless to resist, but certain that whatever this beast is, you’ve got a serious taste for it.
With doom and sludge metal making somewhat of a reappearance on the scene at the moment, Conan are perfectly primed to hammer out their distorted message to the masses whilst gaining some serious recognition for their craft. There are bound to be those who don’t understand the genre or ‘get it’ so to speak, but to the rest of us, this is how metal is supposed to sound.
You can get out to see Conan on tour this October at the following venues and dates:
October 2nd – Sheffield – The Harley
October 3rd – Leeds – Santiagos
October 4th – Colchester – The Hole
October 5th – London – The Black Heart
October 6th – Birmingham – Asylum 2(Fear Fest)
October 8th – Manchester – Roadhouse
And make sure you check them out on Facebook HERE.
