Deadringer
Having featured some tracks from Deadringer previously, the band were awesome enough to send me through a copy of their album all the way from the US so I could check out the rest. Now before continuing I need to apologise to the band, as they sent it quite a long time ago – only once I got it here I kind of put it in the stereo in the kitchen and had it playing whenever I was in there cooking or just reading, and forgot I was meant to be reviewing it until I saw my list. As such, I’ve heard this album a hell of a lot, and have come to really quite love it (although as I was saying to the band last week, I’m not sure my wife is agreeing due to her statements of ‘this album again?’ when ever she comes into the room) – so figured it was about time I did what I was meant to be doing in the first place.
First of the tracks not covered before is L.A.W - a track which continues the bands method of hammering out riffs over rolling drums whilst keeping the vocals downright powerful and heavy. This track has a far funkier edge than most of the other tracks of this genre you come across, getting you moving along as you listen to it whether you want to or not. What’s really striking about this track is how the vocals seem to really push everything further forward, creating a track which has loads of different layers for you to hear, something which again can often be lost. This is full on distorted in your face metal designed to get live crowds moving and venues pumping – and I for one love it! Make sure you check out the solo which is casually thrown into the middle of this track as well – one for the guitarists out there for sure!
Next up to be covered is Schmidtbull, another example of why we need to get these guys over to these shores on a tour as soon as possible! Sludgy and distorted from the outset, you’re once again pummelled by hammering drums, bass heavy rhythms and those powerful vocals all forming a force which nothing is going to stop! Built over a rolling double bass, this track is testament to a band who can form tracks designed to get people moving, get crowds chanting and keep everyone going until they are ready to stop – seriously adrenaline fuelled stuff. It’s no surprise then when Pillars of Humanity comes into continue the album forward, a track once again built over that rolling bass pedal but with added pinch harmonics and lead lines to keep everyone happy. Devil Driver-esque at times in the way it sounds, this is a full on assault of your ear drums which you’ll not only love every second of, but will thank the band for the pleasure once it comes to a close. Fast paced, energetic, full on and downright in your face, this is a track which you need to hear and one which I know I’ll be coming back to again and again.
Soon enough though we’re faced with Down Below to close the album, but once again it does it in style. More of those hammering drums and soaring riffs from the guitars, this time almost drawing on Maiden like riffs to open (if Maiden were to be a distorted monster such as this) before throwing down into a mash up which is sure to get circle pits a plenty moving around the venue. Fast paced once again, the vocals almost seem even heavier on this track as they once again smash you around the face before asking you to pay them for the experience – this is pure downright awesomeness in a musical format, and I for one am fully converted.
There’s not a lot to say about Deadringer that I’ve not said before, apart from maybe 2 things:
1). Please guys, when you record your next album stick to this recipe as it’s a winner – oh and then send me a copy as soon as possible please (hell I’ll pay for it without a question!)
2). If you ever fancy relocating to somewhere closer to me so I can check you out on the live scene then please feel free, no complaints from here!
Check these guys out – you will not be disappointed!

Deadringer recently got in touch about their music to see if there was anything we could do to help them further their name and get them out there. Personally, I think that it’s crucial for bands like this to get out there and be heard to checking these guys out was the least I could do, what I didn’t expect was what I was about to hear from them.
Opening with Crucifier you’re immediately smashed in the face before being hurled into the biggest pit you’ve ever come across, if you’re not ready for it as it begins then it’ll take you by surprise! Rolling drums underpin soaring guitar lines and roaring vocals to create a sound which is both insanely heavy yet somehow funky at the same time. The vocals here are quite simply incredible, ranging between roaring and guttural before hitting notes which will surprise you, this guy knows how to sing! The guitars and bass are right there in the mix which is always awesome to hear as well, creating a sound which is powerful, heavy and straight to the point from start to finish, honestly I’m lost for words here. Chucking in some lead lines from the guitars as well just to make sure you’re fully convinced, this track is epic, there is no other word to describe it!
Last One Standing carries on right where the last track left off, straight away powering into those awesome riffs backed by rolling drums and bass. The vocals take on the heavier approach from the outset here, almost telling you what they want you to hear and forcing you to listen whether you want to or not. What’s really striking in this track is how the music progresses at times, they’ve taken notes which you don’t expect to come next and made them somehow work together to form a track which is once again relentlessly heavy, but also melodic and damned easy to listen to. I can only imagine what the crowds are like when this track is played but from the sounds of it, they must be pretty immense – this is music to move to!
Final track Nailed closes of the selection here perfectly, opening with a cry of ‘we’re coming for you’ before kicking in with some rolling drums and funky guitars, again this is a track which will make you move along to it whether you want to or not. Once again becoming somehow catchy in the chorus section of this track, the soaring pinch harmonics and roaring riffs from the guitars make this a track which I have to call my favourite, it’s just so immense from start to finish.
I love it when I hear from bands like these guys, it’s a real treat to know that there are bands out there producing music like this which will soon be out there to be heard. The music they create takes what can only be described as Southern Rock and jacks it up to not only 11, but 19 – there’s so much pure energy in this music that you will be hooked from the second you hear it to the second it all finishes. My only complaint here – guys – you only sent me through 3 tracks!
