Death Alley Motor Cult
Here we have a four piece rock/metal band from Fresno, California. To be honest there's not a lot I can tell you about these guys. They are pretty well known around the Fresno area, often playing live gigs and they have a pretty cool website you should check out as well where you can find a whole lotta stuff including a fair few tracks.
Devil Sex was the first track I listened to, bear in mind I logged onto the guys website and they have a massive thirteen track thing going on there so I took a selection of them. A rip roaring concoction of an insane guitar riff combined with a gut wrenching drum beat get proceedings under way. The tempo to the track is relentless so the combination of tempo, riff and drum beat gives you a real reality check. The vocals are soon introduced and in true rock fashion, tear strips off you while holding their own amongst the chaos, gradually leaving their mark on the track. The tempo and hard hitting, heavy riffs remains unforgiving throughout the track, right until the last note is played.
Second on ze list was Vampire Empire, a more forgiving, yet punchier guitar riffs gets the ball rolling. There is a distinct change in tempo in comparison to Devil Sex, don't be fooled the track is by no means sluggish. The beats still punish you at will and the riffs are fresh. There is a damn good guitar solo thrown in there for good measure which really blew my mind. The vocals are brought to life and they add volume to an already lively track. They take things to the next level and really do leave you gasping for breath before the end.
On Fire toys with your mind at the beginning of this track. An eerie guitar solo plays slower and less heavy than the previous two tracks. However it soon becomes apparent its one big front as the main body of the track kicks in throwing out a fast paced and face melting riff. The vocals are introduced to the madness ensuing and they sound even heavier than before, really pushing the boundaries as far as they can go. There is much more variation in this track in regards to the tempo, hooks and riffs and the ever present solid drum beat.
Track number four was called Moving In Stereo. An addictive and rhythmic distorted guitar solo gets the show on the road. A charismatic drum beat gets involved adding a new dimension to the track. The addition of the vocals brings solidity to the track and reinforces it as a true rock song. They sound good but raw which makes you take in every lyric. A striking guitar solo rears its head taking center stage for a short time, long enough to scramble your brain. Sometimes you have to just sit back and admire at talent and that’s what I did here. The variations in tempo work well and the vocals adapt perfectly to the change in dynamics during the track.
Ain’t No Saint was the final track that I listened to. A familiar, heavy opening greets us on this track. A whirlwind like riff surges along taking you in its grasp while the thunderous drum beat punishes you during every second. The introduction of the vocals does little to release the hold that the track has over you. They puncture deep into your skin, eating you from the inside out until a break is received in the form of a side splitting solo. This takes the tempo of the track to a new level however it does give you some respite allowing you to catch your breath. As the vocals are introduced, proceedings go back to the norm and carry on in this relentless manner until the end.
Really liked what I heard here. I will be the first to admit this isn’t my preferred genre but there’s something about these guys that turned my head. Like I said above this is only a selection of what the band have to offer, get onto their site and check out the other eight tracks on offer.
