Desensitised
Charlotte from Desensitised recently dropped us a line about some of their tracks to see what we thought about things. This Nottinghamshire based hard rock unit are influenced by the likes of Nirvana, Hole and Joan Jett amongst others, so I was looking forward to seeing what was on offer from the three tracks they sent through!
Opening with Just Tonight we’re immediately thrown into a soft and melodic acoustic melee of guitars and soft vocal lines, the track simply forming around you and allowing you to embrace everything that’s going on. What’s most striking about the mix here is the vocals, they’re quite simply stunning. Roving between lower and more sultry moments through to soaring notes which will send shivers down your spine, the vocal line courtesy of Charlotte is going to convert even the most hardened fan, leaving you with no doubt that this is a band to keep an eye out for. Catchy and melodic from start to finish, this is already looking like a band that we need to get out to see!
Moving on to What Was I Thinking?, the more grungy side of things soon becomes apparent, opening in a Nirvana style which is going to immediately pull you in to see what’s going on. Dark and ominous through the bass line, this is a far more hard hitting track than the last and shows off the bands harder side, still showing they can form tracks which are catchy whilst incorporating the heavier side of things. Personally, I think this is a track which is going to realise its full potential on the live scene, suggesting that these guys are going to be far more at home on the stage than on a recording.
Closing with a cover of Bad Reputation there’s one last chance to behold the punk rock styling’s of the band, allowing you one last opportunity to throw down and enjoy what they’re coming up with. Taking a track like Bad Reputation is always going to be a risk since so many people know it, but the band have done it well and ended up with a track that could well be their own.
Desensitised are a band that have adopted a mixture of styles and made them their own. Throughout the three tracks on offer here there’s a clear message that this is a band who know what they’re doing, understand how to form tracks, and can produce songs which are going to stick in your memory for a long time to come. Definitely a band that I’ll want to hear more of!
