Drowning Pool - Plymouth White Rabbit - 12th April 2013. |
Dave was lucky enough to catch up with CJ Pierce, guitarist for the mighty Drowning Pool, just before their headline slot at the White Rabbit in Plymouth on the 12th of April 2013. Listen in on the link HERE or the widget below to hear what CJ had to say about the tour, the album and the future.
Show wise, it’s impossible to resist a band like Drowning Pool, firstly because they’re all such down to earth and straight up guys, and secondly because their live show is something to behold. From the moment they hit the stage until the moment the gig finished, track after track seemed to flow out of the speakers.

Offering up a set which was Sinner heavy (I think CJ said something like 7 tracks) as well as featuring tracks off of Desensitized and of course, Resilience, the band played to a captivated crowd and showed that with Jasen at the helm, this is a band who are on track with a new found focus and determination. One Finger And A Fist is a new contender against Bodies and had everyone in the venue singing along, joining in with the band and showing just how much love there is for these guys on these shores, something which hopefully the band saw from the stage, and something the crowd could certainly recognise from their viewpoint.
Throughout the gig I could see the sound guys running around like nutters trying to sort something and giving each other worried looks, but it was only when I spoke to CJ briefly after the show that he revealed that the stage monitors kept cutting out meaning for a lot of the set, the band themselves couldn’t hear what they were playing – not that the audience could tell!
From bass heavy riffs to roaring vocals and soaring solo lines, the gig was one that will live in my memory until the day I die as being one which represented a triumphant return, a moment for the band to step up (excuse the pun) and show the world that they’re back, they’re ready, and they’re better than ever. If you’re thinking about getting down to see Drowning Pool whilst they’re in the UK then my advice is do it – I’ve not seen a more hard working, determined and down to earth band perform such a stunning set in a hell of a long time.
Come back soon guys.
