Elithia - NEW!
Elithia, a band we checked out bloody ages ago, but a band that have stayed on our radio ever since simply because they held such an impact! As such, when Connor dropped me a line the other day letting me know about two new tracks, I immediately cracked out the speakers, cranked the volume up as high as possible, and prepared myself for what I was about to hear!
With Lions Might kicks things off for us, immediately hammering into a pounding melee of guitar work, drums and powerful bass heavy rhythms. As the vocals come in the true force of the track is revealed, showing off the seriously heavy side of the band whilst at the same time, managing to keep that sense of intricacy working throughout. Refusing to follow a simple line or do anything straight forward, this is a track which jumps from moment to moment in an almost Mastadon style, incorporating a serious dose of prog style stuff into the mix without getting bogged down or losing any of the power – it’s a seriously accomplished track for sure, and one which suggests damned good things to come!
Dawn To Dusk marks a slight change in proceedings as it comes into being, initially opening with a far softer and melodic style before once again descending back into the realms of all out power. Heavy guitars work in unison with the rumbling rhythm section before the whole mix is turned on its head and we’re once again shown their more intricate abilities. Powerful throughout yet also, still managing to push the boundaries of what should be possible, this is another track which shows off just how able these guys are when it comes to music, seriously seriously incredible stuff.
Once again Elithia have managed to prove that they’re a true force to be reckoned with on the metal scene, and shown that before long, they’re going to be a household name. If you’ve not come across them before then now is your chance, make sure you check them out, show them some love, and wait to see just how soon it is that they break through!

Elithia
Plymouth based Elithia recently got in touch about their EP ‘No Time For Mercy’. Ever the helpful chaps we are here at Loud-Stuff, it was only fair that a listen be had and a review be posted! Read on to find out why you need to get out there to get a copy of this offering from the Plymouth 5 piece.
Opening with Carnage, you’re immediately smashed in the face by riffing guitars, rolling drums and guttural roars of vocals, the bass heavy sound shaking the very foundations you’re sitting within. Keeping things dark and sludgy, the track kicks into being with almost spoken vocals, soaring guitar riffs, hammering bass lines and some pretty insane drumming – the rolls achieved are really something to behold. What’s really striking about this track is the progression, it works logically from section to section yet somehow creates a sound which is unique to the band – maybe it’s the style of the vocals but it works on numerous levels. Kicking into a syncopated break down about ¾ of the way through, you soon realise that this isn’t just mindless heaviness being played for the sake of it, it’s carefully crafted and well played music which any band should be damned proud of!
Event Horizon continues this theme, opening with more pounding drums, riffing guitars and sludgy bass lines before bringing in the raspy gravelly vocals once again. As dark as the track before, this is seriously heavy stuff which will grab you by the nuts and force feed you what the band have to tell you without giving you any choice in the matter. Breaking down to raw elements through the track, every single element of the band gets shown off during the track meaning you’re made aware of just how much the band have put into it – this almost makes it even heavier as you listen to it! As the track closes and finishes, you’re left wandering what the hell just happened to my ears, the rawness of the music almost leaves them a little numb – but it’s good!!
Final track To Ashes finishes the selection off as it began, opening with riffing guitars and a pounding bass line, the rolling drums serve to back up everything that’s going on musically and further develop the track to a new level. Building into the track kicking in properly, things take on a faster approach this time around, keeping everything heavy throughout yet somehow making sure the technicalities of the music are kept apparent – you can hear everything going on in the track and there’s a lot to it! Breaking down once again from acoustic to heavy (and chucking a solo into the mix), this track finishes the EP perfectly, keeping everything to a standard across the board and leaving you wanting some more!
Don’t go into this thinking Elithia are going to be another mindless metal band, their music is far too technical for that. Listen to the lead lines thrown into the mix, the syncopation of the drums against the guitars, the way the vocals bounce around, the matching mass lines underpinning everything – the combination of everything lifts this music far beyond the simple tag of ‘metal’. If this is just their EP, I can’t wait to see what happens when they sit down and produce a full length album!
