Erimha
Montreal are certainly getting a loud magnificent awakening now that four piece symphonic black metal tribe Erimha are on the scene.
The first track is a haunting film like instrumental introduction that entices the listener to find out more about what Erimha are about, it had this effect on me as I first listened to this album. So the fast guitar riff, brutal vocals and rolling drums took me back slightly as the transition from a haunting instrumental to brutal metal was quite abrupt and it worked.
I can hear a variety throughout the album as the songs play, you have the speedy Ascetic which wakes up the listener after hearing an almost hypnotic instrumental. You also have the more sweeping Metaphysic Countenance, this is nicely introduced by a film like instrumental theme and then the brutalness of the track.
Slowly getting into black metal and growing to appreciate the heavy spirituality of it is interesting for me as a music journalist and reviewer as it is a widely popular genre and like other genres gains new fans every day. I like the elements of orchestral music with brutal metal as the contrast between the two is so clear yet remarkable.
Closing track Metemphycosis took a few prog metal influences to create quite an epic end to a great album.
Overall a great album from Erimha!
Stand out tracks: Ascetic, Metaphysice Countenance and Metemphycosis
For fans of Dimmu Borgir and Cradle Of Filth
