Fly This For Me
Garry from SAN PR recently dropped us a line to let us know about Fly This For Me, and their debut record, Making Shadows which is due out on the 16th of July. Coming out of Guildford with a sound akin to the Foo Fighters combined with Alexisonfire and Blink 182, this debut EP promises a lot on paper, so how does it match up when it’s played?
Opening with She Said you’re immediately enveloped by a melodic and soaring sound, a guitar line paving the way into the chilled out vocal melee which continues the track forwards. Roving between the laid back and chilled out approach and a more upbeat chorus, the track forms into something which is both energetic and soothing at the same time, capturing a sense of the atmospheric whilst also managing to give off a sense of what they’re like live. This is the sort of music which is going to appeal to the masses, crafting a sound which people will embrace live, singing along to the anthemic chorus’s and feeding off of the energy of the band. As an introduction to a band, this track does the job perfectly, taking the form of a song which will grab your attention and keep you intrigued throughout.
We All Fall follows on and demonstrates that this isn’t a one trick pony, moving into a far more powerful track full to the brim with energetic guitar lines, pounding drums and gravelly, deep vocal lines. The bass backs everything up and adds a sense of rumbling to things, keeping the feeling flowing from the music as well as the melody to ensure that you’re not just listening, but also feeling. Personally, this is my favourite track off of the EP, and another track which is surely going to slay on the live scene. Making Shadows continues the upbeat tempo and once again dishes out a dose of serious rock for your delectation. The palm muted guitar lines add a sense of punk to things whilst still managing to keep the mainstream rock feeling flowing fully, the end result being a track which once again raises the bar and sets this band up as one which you need to make sure you check out when you get the chance.
Closing the EP with Rock Bottom there’s one last moment of genius to check out, finishing on a funky and raucous note and once again showing that there’s more to these guys than meet the eye. Powerful, funky, distorted yet restrained and clean at times, this is a perfect ending to an EP which comes as close to perfect as I’ve come across recently. Throwing out one final track which could well become an anthem, there’s no doubt left in my mind that this band are destined to bigger things, their sound just works!
Fly This For Me have managed to capture a sense of the live show in a recording here, yet at the same time have also managed to produce an EP which is clean, exciting and fun to listen to. Every single track shows off a slightly different approach, working together to build an overall image of a band who work hard, consider their music and as such, produce top notch music. This is going to be one to keep an eye out for!
