Freear
We were recently sent through details of Freear – a one man unit focused on remixing tracks and adding his own take on the sounds from the bands. Whilst this isn’t normally the sort of thing I go for, given the recommendation I was presented with I couldn’t resist the chance to check out what was on offer from the latest single (which is also free to download), What I Ghost.
With What I Ghost (Sublime ‘What I Got’ vs RJD2 ‘Ghostwriter), Mike Freear seems to have managed to combine the different elements of Sublime with RJD2 to create a whole new feeling, a sense of upbeat fun and funkiness – it’s a perfect style of music for a summers day. Whilst this isn’t the sort of thing we’d normally feature on here, I think it’s always good to get some perspective on the music industry as a whole to see what’s going on – and this is certainly something to check out. Chilled out yet upbeat and fun, this is the perfect sort of music for when you’ve got friends over, the sort of music which is going accompany a good time and add a sense of atmosphere to wherever it’s played – it’s damned good to hear!
All too often I think people avoid ‘remixes’ because of the sorts of thing which have taken over the charts in the past, but what you’ve got here is different in so many ways. Whilst I’ve only mentioned the first track because it’s there to download for free, there’s so much on Freear’s SoundCloud which demonstrates why you need to hear this, The White Rose being another notable track. If you’re looking for the heaviest of death metal then sure, this isn’t going to be for you – but if you’re looking for something which you can simply sit back and listen to, this is the sort of thing you NEED to hear – you won’t be disappointed.
