Before today I had not heard of the genre psychedelic cinematic until Grasshopper emailed me with their debut album. Hailing from India, Grasshopper have produced something very unique and spectacular within their album Mirrors of the Mind.
When first immersed into a calm mellow atmosphere with the opening tracks Deadweight and Mochronome Night, you feel very calm, mellow and feel those inner anxieties floating away into the distance. As the guitars are introduced in the next track, it reminds me of Pink Floyd and Thin Lizzy; relaxing guitar solos that are remembered on first listen, these create the psychedelic part of the genre and the sound effects with atmospheric music create the cinematic effect.
This is a concept album with some very insightful descriptions about how each song represents a part of modern day to day life. Reading information in their press pack there are tracks on the album that acknowledge your anxieties and that is heard very clearly in the music. The majority of the tracks, particularly near the end of the album send these inner anxieties on their way for them not to return.
Overall a truly unique, hypnotic album that has left me feeling the most relaxed I have been for a long time.
Stand out tracks: All of them!!
For fans of Pink Floyd and Muse
