Grindhouse
Amersham based Grindhouse were good enough to get in contact about their music. Seeing as they stated Wycombe based on their message, and that I spent 3 years in Wycombe whilst at uni many years ago, I thought it only fair to have a listen!
Opening with No Hope you’re immediately thrust into a bassy and distorted world featuring riffing guitars and Lemmy-esque vocals all underpinned with some lead guitar lines and a solid drum beat. This music is basic, simple, raw, edgy and to the point – it’s refreshing to hear something broken down to such simple yet effective elements. As the track progresses onwards you’ll find yourself chanting along with ‘The Time Has Come’ and nodding along, live this track is bound to be epic, especially in the broken down jumpy section towards the end. Unrelenting right up to the last second, this track stands out as an example of what happens when raw punk meets solid rock and musicians who know what they’re doing.
Second track, In Cold Blood, adds in a more Southern Rock sound to proceedings. Opening with a dirty and sludgy guitar lick you’re immediately tapping your feet and nodding along with the music whilst still sitting back thinking that the sound they’ve created is far bigger than you’d normally expect! Sounding almost funky at times this track is probably my favourite from the two, it’s the sort of track which makes you move along to it whether you do it knowingly or not. Once again unrelenting up to the final second, check this track out if you’ve got any doubts as it will push all of them to a far away place where they cease to matter.
I didn’t know what to expect when I read the description of the band as Punk n Roll, but I think I get it now. They’ve taken music which will make you dance and music which will make you jump about like a lunatic and made it their own. Their sound is unique and to the point, unrelenting and unforgiving but fun at the same time. I for one want to hear a lot more from these guys and advise you to check out what they’ve done so far!
