Hopelezz
We were recently put on to Hopelezz, a German band who have previously shared the stage with the likes of Ill Nino, Sepultura, Walls Of Jericho, Fozzy, Brainstorm and Mnemic, immediately showing their prowess when it comes to their music. With a band interest simply stated as ‘kick some ass’ and a musical style described as ‘melodic death metal/modern metal/thrash metal/death metal ‘ – the guys are out there doing what they love and seemingly doing damned well with it! They sent me through links to three of their tracks so I figured I’d best check things out for myself to see what they were up to!
Kicking things off with Devils Ride (see the video below) things get off to a heavy start for sure, immediately launching us into a melee of hammering guitar work, rolling drums and pounding bass rhythms – this is no holds barred serious stuff. Pulling back as the vocals come into being, suddenly we’re shown a softer side of the band – but not for long. Alternating between insanely heavy and far more melodic, this is a track that twists and turns throughout, keeping things interesting throughout and offering up a sound akin to Dark Tranquility or the lie – it’s powerful, melodic, in your face, and damned good to hear. Despite the powerful and hard hitting edge, the melodic edge of this track allows it to be accessible and the sort of thing that’s sure to reignite your love for music of the metal persuasion – a fantastic introduction to a band for sure!
Milk The Goat continues this hard hitting approach with aplomb, once again launching us straight into a melee of hammering guitar work, thundering bass rhythms and powerful drum work, setting the tone on heavy from the word go. Once again listening to this track I found myself stunned by the drum and guitar work going on, it’s the sort of thing which is sure to unleash pits from the word go and get venues pumping throughout. Heavy and raw once again, this track is another which is sure to get you wanting more, offering up raw power, melodic breaks and moments designed for all out insanity – two tracks in and still thoroughly enjoying what we’re hearing!
It’s only then down to Black Souls Arrive to close the selection of tracks sent through, finishing with a track which starts off far more melodic than the previous one before once again unleashing the fury that is Hopelezz. Powerful guitars once again steal the show, backed up by that heavy assed rhythm section resulting in the massive sound. Powerful and in your face from the word go, this final track shows off the ability of the band with aplomb, showing what a band can come up with when they set their mind to it and reminding you of why you first started listening to metal. Definitely a band I need to see live, make sure you check these out!
When Hopelezz got in touch and I read their ‘genre’ description, I was a little wary as simply, the whole melodic death metal thing has kind of been done to death of late and a lot of the bands are beginning to sound a little generic – not here though. Hopelezz have taken a hard and heavy sound, added in a sprinkling of melody, and crafted their own unique approach that I’m simply going to refer to as heavy assed metal from here on. This band isn’t just one to check out, this band is exciting, fresh, and the sort of band I’ve been waiting to discover through the site, definitely one I need to hear more from.
