Huron
Rob from Stampede Press recently droppped us a line letting us know about the upcoming tour Skindred are embarking on around the UK, and letting us know that they’re taking Huron along for the ride! Now let’s put this into some perspective – Huron this year alone played Download, Bloodstock and Bulldog Bash, released the first of their two part EP War Party to critical acclaim, and were described as ‘Remarkable British Heavy Metal’ by Hevy Petal.com – which all in all is a pretty good year I reckon!
To set them up nicely, Huron have released a music video for their track, Fight For Your Life, from War Part Part 1. Described as offering a sledgehammer showcase of what Huron are about and offering a fantastic insight into what to expect from this even evolving metal band – the video alone promises to be pretty cool – so let’s check it out!

To top it off, Rob also sent us a copy of War Party from Huron to check out for ourselves, so I figured I’d best see what was on offer from these guys musically before trying to get out to see them on tour.
Fight For Your Life (the video above) gets off to a hammering and rolling start, kicking things into action and showing us what we can expect from Huron – and it’s looking mighty good from where I’m sitting. Powerful guitars work with hammering drums and rumbling bass to craft a sound which is heavy, hard hitting and yet full of hooks. Immediately getting you moving from the word go, this is a track which is going to find its full force on the live scene, the sort of thing which will get crowds pumping and secure these guys a place as a must see band – I know I need to get out to see them. Raw vocals push the mix to a whole new level, resulting in a sound which is devastatingly heavy and straight down the line metal – there’s no messing about, and quite frankly, there doesn’t need to be! Room 174 continues this approach further, once again launching us into a powerful melee of hammering guitar lines and rolling double bass beats, the mix forming into the sort of thing which is sure to get pits moving as far as the eye can see. This is my own personal favourite track off of the EP, there’s that hooky quality to it which stands it out and allows it to permeate into the inner recesses of your mind, staying with you and making you want to come back to it time and time again.
Bite The Kerb once again hammers home the message of unrelenting metal courtesy of the band, hammering into another track designed to pack a punch and leave you quivering at the knees. Rolling drums abound once again as the guitars take the track onwards, the roaring vocals levelling everything and presenting us with a mix that allows us to hear everything, appreciate everything, and most importantly, feel everything that they’re doing. If you’re looking for a track which you could use as a musical definition of metal then this would come pretty damned close as it’s got everything – rolling double bass, pinch harmonics, soaring lead lines, hammering riffs, roaring vocal lines and that sense of power that only metal of the purest form can deliver. It’s only then left to Mercy Killing to close things, finishing the EP as it began and reminding us of where we started off. Heavy until the final seconds of the final track, this isn’t so much a crescendo to close things but instead a track which leads us towards part 2 of this EP, hinting at what is to follow and letting us know that what we’re in for is going to be one hell of a ride.
So there we have it, an awesome EP, an awesome video – what more do you need to know! I know I’ll be trying to get out to see Huron at one of their shows so take my advice, do the same and get out there and support these guys – if you’re not already listening to them, you should be.
