I Cried Wolf
Plymouth based I Cried Wolf recently got in touch to let us know about the Melodic Hardcore which they’re producing. Always on the look out for new and exciting bands (especially from the South West since it’s local to me!) I got on and had a listen to what was on offer!
I Remember demonstrates the heavy outlook of these guys, and the potential which there is locked up in the band. Being a rough recording there’s a lack of levelling going on, but at the same time you can hear what they’re doing. The guitars are pumping, the drums kept relatively simple so as not to steal the show from any other element and the vocals powerful. The track itself seems to rove from relatively straight forward in form to broken down sections, always keeping the riff at the heart of what is going on and allowing the rest of the band to base themselves around that. It’s difficult to really break the track apart too much because of the recording, but there’s definite potential here, it just needs some refining and a proper recording session!
No To Change is much the same, one which is difficult to comment on completely because of the recording, but again demonstrating that there’s something here, something which just needs to be refined and given some proper production to ensure it can all be brought out. The breakdowns you can hear are solid, the drumming sounds damned good and the guitar work works over the backing rhythm section.
This is a tricky one as the recording simply doesn’t allow a lot of insight into what the band are going for here. Personally, if it was me on the production front, bring those guitars to the front with a decent amount of distortion, mic up the drums so the cymbals are out of the way to avoid too much crash noise and get the double bass pedal a rolling! Keep the bass heavy in the mix and make sure those vocals don’t over power everything else which is going on around them (and hell, if you want a studio with a diamond producer then drop me an email as I know a damned good place!). There’s some potential here for sure, and the coolest part of this I guess is hopefully, the guys in I Cried Wolf will keep me updated on how things go so we can begin to see the journey they go down with their music from here.
Keep me posted guys!
