I Used To Be A Sparrow
Ellie from Prescription PR is pretty darned good at sending through bands that she thinks we’re going to enjoy checking out, so when she sent through details of Swedish indie rockers I Used To Be A Sparrow, I sat up and took note from the word go. Comprised of Dick Pettersson and Andrea Caccese, the band embodies a compromise between the urgency of a garage band and the impact of epic indie rock, whilst slicing in electronica and pop wherever they can – which sounds interesting for sure. Ellie was kind enough to put us onto their track Warpaint On Invisible Children to check out, as well as a remix of the track which you can hear below!
Fading into being it’s striking how calm a sound the guys have put together, combining electronic style drums with a chilled out guitar and vocal combination. The resulting mix is something which is chilled out, calming and strikingly hard hitting for all of the right reasons. Managing to form a sound which will evoke thoughts, bring about memories, and have you sitting back to simply take in what you’re hearing, the song continues along its calm and soothing pathway, keeping the listener engaged throughout and showing how cool music can sound when it’s well thought out. At only 2:56 long, this isn’t the longest track in the world, but the soothing moments will leave you calmed, satisfied, and begging for a bit more!
The remix takes this soothing sound and adds in a new dimension, almost making it sound upbeat and fast compared to the original mix. Electronic sounds combine with the soothing vocals crafting a sound which wouldn’t be out of place in a club, offering up a soothing and calming sound mixed with a solid beat and digital outlook. Of the two, I think I prefer the original personally, but there’s something about this remix which works, something which I think a lot of people are going to connect with for sure.
I never set out on with Loud-Stuff to create a site that was purely rock and metal based, so when stuff like this comes in it’s a cool change to hear what else is going on in the world. With I Used To Be A Sparrow I’ve come across a band whose sound is chilled out, relaxed, calming and yet upbeat and happy. This isn’t music that’s heavy or is going to get you going mad, it’s music that’s going to relax you, music to chill out to, and music that you’re going to return to time and time again.
