Incidium - Coming Soon....
Following on from our previous review of Incidium (see below), the band were good enough to get in touch with some brand new hot off the press tracks for us to check out. These tracks had just been finished when they were sent to us and are not yet out there to be heard, but read on to find out why you should listen to them as soon as they’re available (Oh and note - I've not used the word Epic once for fear of being accused of being influenced by the band...)
Realms of Darkness opens in true Incidium fashion, heavy and fast. The vocals roll around on top of the pumping guitars and drums creating this insane mix of distorted guitars and punchy vocals yet retaining a funky edge which is sure to have crowds moving live. Breaking down into a riff laden section powered by solid drumming and spoken vocals, a solo kicks in over the top of rolling double bass and serious riffing, this track is metal in its purest form, heavy yet and melodic enough to get the crowd moving. As the breakdown comes to an end, a lead line takes over and controls the riffs backing it up, adding in a second guitar line and leading into a second solo slot, even listening to this now I’m honestly blown away by this track, it’s akin to newer Machine Head in the way it’s formed, using the dual lead lines to control the track whilst the double bass pedal hammers ever onwards, all backed up by some roaring vocals – listen to this track and you’ll understand as I could go on for a lot longer on this one!
Moment of Clarity leads on from the last track picking up where it left off. Again using the dual lead guitars and rolling drums, this track has a galloping pace, backed up by harmonics and simple yet effective riffs. As the vocals kick in the track takes on its true form, broken down to bear elements when the vocals kick off but soon regaining that galloping pace again. 2.00 brings in that double bass pedal again with a prolonged roar, once again with this band I was left mouth gaping wondering how the hell they were going to continue to better this. Suddenly though, the riff changes to a pumping funky head banging heavy metal sludgy power riff, it’s awesome. Leading on from this the solo kicks in backed by more riffs and those powerful drums. My issue with this track – it’s only 3.58 long, I could have happily listened to this track for another 5 minutes easily – so I’ve just listened to it a few times over.
Only the Strong survive opens with an ominous guitar line backed by a bouncing bass, soon kicking into an almightily heavy riff underpinned by a lead line and some pinch harmonics, then in comes the speed. 2 words describe this track – CIRCLE PIT – if you’ve ever wanted to hear a track which is guaranteed to start one, this is it. The track continues at this insane pace until it breaks down into a funkier slower beat briefly, then in comes that double bass and lead line for a quick break line. Soon enough though, we’re back at break neck speed hurtling ever onwards. Again a solo kicks in underpinned by riffs and galloping drum lines, this track just seems to go from better to better as you listen to it.
I’ve said before that I’m a guitarist so quite often love tracks for their solos or technical ability on the guitar front, but these guys have taken every element of the band and created a monster which I fear might not be equalled. I’ve come across quite a few good bands since we started the site and have heard some awesome tracks, but these guys seem to be producing something on another level. Incidium will be big, they will be heard of and they will be one of those bands which in 10 years time I tell someone I once heard before they were big. The sound they create is so massive, so intense and so heavy yet so refined it’s hard to believe that they’re not bigger!
I honestly feel honoured to have heard these tracks before most people and cannot wait until I can post something about where to get hold of them, purely so everyone can see why the hell I’m wittering on so much. I can officially say that I am a fan of Incidium based on these three tracks (without even considering the three before) and cannot wait to see what they do next.
I for one want a copy of this album as soon as it comes out, and maybe a t-shirt, and some tickets....

Incidium
Incidium from Manchester are one of those bands which you stumble across from time to time who make you sit back and really think – wow…..this is awesome. Read on to find out why…
The Prophecy opens with rolling drums, heavy guitars and roaring vocals all combining to create an assault on your ear drums. Moving from harmonic sections to heavy break downs, this track is constantly changing, always leaving you wandering what’s coming next. Moving into a guitar solo, then back to the building guitars and drums, the track moves from strength to strength, continually heavy but retaining the harmony which keeps the listener truly engaged. Using break downs, pinch harmonics, roaring vocals, rolling drums, distorted guitar lines and some damned awesome riffing, this track is one which I’ll revisit over and over again. Finishing heavy and harmonic, all I could think to myself was ‘this will take some following…’
Intoxicated Serenity does exactly that, it follows on pushing the boundaries even further. Opening hauntingly with a lead line over some sfx, this track opens heavy and dark, building up using the guitars and bass over a slowed down drum beat to set the scene of the track. All of a sudden though, that guitar line takes over speeding everything up, the track suddenly forms into this heavy mish mash of lead lines, pumping riffs, hammering drums (at insane speeds!) – if this track doesn’t get pits moving live then I don’t know what will! The vocals kick in, spat at the listener along with the still pumping backing instruments. By the time the track breaks down and slows a little, I was already in need of a cup of tea and a sit down, this is full on, in your face, heavy assed metal. The break doesn’t last long mind, soon enough the track picks up pace again and powers ever forwards. My question from the last track as to how they’d follow on has been answered…..like this.
Divide and Conquer opens differently, using picked clean guitars to set the scene then bringing in a lead line over the top to push the track forward. All of this is backed by a simple yet effective drum beat and a sludgy bass line, all giving the effect of building into something. Before even a minute has passed, the track kicks in with galloping drums and distorted riffs all over laid with a picked lead line. Still harmonic, this track finishes off the selection on the bands FB page perfectly, showing off their ability to play softer harmonic stuff which can build into their almightily heavy tracks in the blink of an eye.
Incidium have produced three tracks of pure genius here, and I hope they get the recognition they deserve for it. Each track is different in its own right, showing off the skills of the band whilst powering onwards with their take on metal, adopting influences from different genres at every turn. It’s impossible to put these guys in a genre as they take on elements of so many different ones. Each track will punch you in the face, apologise and make it better, then just as you feel safe again they’ll punch you all over again, that’s the only way I can describe it right now!
