Inherit The Stars
We were recently put onto the 3 track album sampler from Sheffield based Inherit The Stars, formerly known as Decode. As a band who seem to be hitting all the right notes, and describe themselves as oozing energy and having an explosive sound, I figured it was only right I see what was on offer from these guys, just to make sure I knew what to expect from their upcoming album!
Kicking things off with We’ll Fall Together we’re immediately lured into a hammering melee of upbeat guitar work, rolling drumlines and pulsating bass rhythms – it’s a mix which is sure to get you involved from the off. Despite the all out approach which the guys have gone for, there’s also a serious dose of melody thrown into things, allowing the mix to sound heavy, yet accessible and easy to listen to at the same time. For me, this opening track hits all of the right notes, immediately grabbing your attention and generating images of darkened venues, the audience captivated by the band on stage in front of them , it’s a seriously accomplished sound. Catchy, powerful, heavy and accessible, this track has it all, and sets the scene for a band that already, I’m looking forward to hearing a lot more from!
Caught In The Crossfire (check out the video below!) builds on this sound further, this time opening with synth to lead into the track before once again, ushering in the heavier elements to ensure you don’t think they’ve lost their touch. More powerful vocally than the previous track, this is another display of the arsenal that these guys are packing, showing you just how melodic metal can be when a band know what they’re doing, and how to craft their sound. Once again throwing in a catchy chorus just to make sure you’re still firmly on board and loving every moment, this track stands out as my personal favourite from the selection, and one which holds single potential for sure.
Closing with Facing The Fire we’re initially led into a Panic At The Disco style opening before the band once again regain control of their sound, Somehow managing to level things out between heavy and soft once again, this track harks far more towards the melodic and emotional side of the spectrum, yet at the same time still manages to satisfy that heavy urge within you. Another close contender for a single for sure, the final moments here do what they should, leave you knowing that you’ve just heard something special, but sure that you want to hear more.
I didn’t really know what I was in for with Inherit The Stars, yet here I’ve found a band that have got the potential to become my favourite discovery of 2013 already. Throughout the 3 tracks on offer here we’re shown the power of the band, their ability to use melody, and their understanding of music – resulting in three tracks which are quite simply awesome. Definitely a band to keep an eye out for – you need to hear these guys to believe it!
