Jaded - update
We were recently contacted by Lee from Jaded (who we featured a few months ago) to let us know that they’d posted three new demos on their page. Looking back at their original tracks, the key to their success (I felt) was always going to be sticking to their guns and producing the music they were already playing, so I was looking forward to seeing what they’d come up with since then!
Opening with Run and Hide I have to say I was pleased to hear that they had continued to use the tried and tested methods. Opening over a clean guitar line before ushering in a soaring lead melody (simply yet effective), the vocals soon come in to make this track complete. Bass heavy yet melodic throughout, this track once again harks back to the best of the best from the 90’s grunge/rock era, melodic vocal lines, powerful backing music, bass heavy rhythms – it’s all there and all working well. Catchy from the outset, this track is the sort of track you can imagine seeing played live, sure it’s dark but it’s got that live quality to it which will be received incredibly well. What I particularly liked as well was the roughness of the recording, there’s a sense that this is what the band sound like – no over production or digital cleaning, this is the band here and they’re sounding good!
Liven It Up follows on, a track which opens more distorted than the last but regains all of the melodies which you would hope to hear from them. Palm muted guitars over a simple yet effective drum beat lead the way before the powerful gravelly vocals are brought in to complete the sound. Somehow funky despite being relatively plain, this is a track without frills or unnecessary elements, it’s just a downright solid rock tune which does what it says on the tin. For me, the vocals steal the show here though, they’re powerful, off clean and match everything behind them perfectly, really elevating the track to something you could well imagine receiving a lot of air play – there’s something here which allows it to be accessible whilst still maintaining that heavy foundation. Make sure you check out the solo here as well, it really finishes things off for me and confirms that these guys have not only been working, but they’ve been thinking!
Final track Goodbye closes the selection of new tracks from the guys, and does it in an unexpected style almost. There’s something oddly mainstream about the way this track opens, it’s hard to put into words but you could imagine this being a widely accepted rock track. Still maintaining the raw energy which these guys seem to manage to include in their music, this is another example of how the band have developed from a rock band into a solid unit, all working together and crafting tracks which will engage anyone who listens to them.
I liked Jaded the first time I heard them, and I’m really really happy to see that they’ve continued to produce music of a similar style, only more advanced. It’s like the Bill and Ted moment at the end of Bogus Journey, when they go and get lessons for a while before coming back to play Kiss’s version of God Gave Rock n Roll To You – these guys have gone away, practiced and come back with tracks which demonstrate their development. My advice, get in a studio and get these properly done then get them sent out, as this is the future direction of music people.
