Jashwha Moses
JASHWHA MOSES – NO WAR ON EARTH ALBUM
Released 8 April 2013, Sugar Shack Records
Moses has described the music on this album as “proper roots reggae…music with a strong social and spiritual message,” This is a huge claim to make and, coming from a mouth less wise than his, one which could easily sound both hollow and arrogant. The reason that it doesn’t however, is that this is a warm and seductive album, which tempts you in softly, with a mixture of dub reworkings and new material, each of which complements the other because of Moses’ singular, unifying vision. The gentle rhythms and soft, exacting rhyming schemes sound as if they have rolled onto the tape naturally – a sure sign of quality. This is music that could have been made at any point in the past 40 or 50 years. What qualifies it, as the music of now is Moses’ calm, sweet and convincing voice, which speaks of both love and common sense with both wisdom and empathy.
