Jet Pack - NEW VIDEO!
The guys in West Midlands based Jet Pack have just released their EP, Chasing Sunsets, and seem to be building up quite the following around it. To coincide with the release, the chaps have also just released a spanking new music video for their track Back To Life, which you can see below. Definitely a band to be keeping a serious eye on, read below to find out what we thought of the EP as a whole when we had a listen to it a while back.

West Midlands based Jet Pack are due to release their new EP on Monday the 6th of May, and we were sent through a copy from Garry at SAN PR to check out, just to see what we thought of things. Managing to merge an alternative edge with probing guitar rhythms and emotive vocal lines, as well as a strong post punk outlook, the band are stated as bringing about thoughts of Blink 182, Jimmy Eat World and the Foo Fighters – which sounds like a pretty upbeat mix to me. Seeing as we were sent through a copy, I figured it was time to crank up the volume, hit play and see what was on offer from this record.
Kicking into being with Back To Life we’re led into an upbeat melee of hammering guitar work, soaring vocal lines and bass heavy rhythms, it’s the sort of mix which you’re going to move along to from the word go whether you’re ready or not. Catchy and full of melodies, this is inoffensive rock designed for a good time, the sort of thing that on the live scene is going to the venue pumping, people singing along and everyone begging for another taste – a solid start to things for sure. The same sort of theme continues into Now I Know How John Locke Felt, once again using the guitar work to lift the spirits of the track and conjure up that catchy, up beat, happy sort of vibe. There’s a more alternative edge to things here, almost harking towards My Chemical Romance in some ways, whilst at the same time managing to keep enough of that pop edge in play to give these guys some serious main stream appeal. To me, this is a track which has single potential, the sort of thing which will go down as well on the radio as it will on the home stereo, it’s a catchy rock song, and one which stands out as a high point on the EP for sure.
Pulling back for the opening of The Heat Of The Moment, the track builds into being before revealing the Foo Fighters style moments on offer. The guitars all work together to form a sound which is off heavy, yet still packs a punch, the drums backing everything up and the vocals leading the way – it’s a melee of elements which have all been mixed to near perfection. Think All American Rejects crossed with Foo Fighters and you’re getting somewhere close to the sound on offer here, inoffensive, easy to listen to rock music. Another track which has serious single potential, this is another one which you need to make sure you check out, and one which is sure to become a solid favourite after a couple of listens.
Slowing things down for Chasing Sunsets (Featuring Lauren Pyke), the vibe moves from upbeat rock into a world of acoustic melody, the soft guitar lines melding with the evocative vocal lines to form a sound which is sure to sit you back and make you think. What this track lacks in all out distorted power it makes up for in the emotional content of things, it’s a track which is sure to bring about memories of days gone by, make you think about how you’ve spoken to people and how you’ve gone about life, and to be quite honest, a track which ends up being really quite a sobering experience. Melodic, powerful, hard hitting, emotional, this track is one which stands out on the EP as the sort of thing that is going to connect with everyone, reflect a thought in everyone, and make everyone want to hear it again. It’s a shock then when All I Need comes about to take the lead, once again returning us to the world of upbeat rock, ushering the track into being with rolling drum lines, pounding guitar rhythms and more of those upbeat vocal lines, it’s a return to the tried and tested method which works…it’s that simple!
It’s only then left for This Is The End to close proceedings for us, finishing on another softer note and leaving us with one final hard hitting moment. Deep and powerful bass rhythms work with the soaring guitar lines to form a sound that’s emotional, thought provoking, yet somehow upbeat and based firmly in the world of rock music. A solid ending to a solid EP, this track leaves you certain that there’s a lot more to come from these guys, and knowing that when it comes, you’ll want to hear it.
I’ve been really struck by Jet Pack, and I’ll be completely honest when I say that this EP wasn’t what I was expecting at all! Powerful throughout, yet still managing to be hooky enough to be accessible to all, this is an EP which is going to stand out as a serious contender this year, and one which is going to set Jet Pack up for a hell of a career. Definitely a band I’ll be aiming to check out this year – my advice -get on it.
