K-Lacura
Didcot metal crew K-Lacura were recently sent through to us from SAN PR to check out what we thought, and being the lovely folks we are here at Loud-Stuff we thought it only right we check them out! Drawing influence from the likes of Parkway Driver, Killswitch Engage, Rage Against The Machine and Limp Bizkit, the band are already ascending the stairs of UK metal, developing a reputation for live performances and their passion and devotion. Their new album, Portraits Of The Faceless is due out on April 16th so we thought it only right we see what’s on offer!
Opening with Beneath The Buried there’s an immediate sense that this journey is going to be a heavy one, immediately kicking into rolling drums, roaring vocals and driving guitar lines. From the word go this is a track which is going to get you out of your seat and moving around, certain to cause the crowds to go mad on the live scene. The most notable element of the track is the contrasting hard and clean lyrics, the mix forming something heavy yet melodic and keeping you wanting more and more. Carouse comes up next and continues the theme, keeping the guitars fast and jumpy to keep the crowds moving along with them. Melodic throughout despite the raw and heavy edge, this track strikes me as a potential anthem in the waiting, there’s the qualities of the bands they look up to running throughout the music which is going to make you come back to this one time and time again.
Portraits of the Faceless is soon upon us to take the lead, opening with sludgy guitar lines and fast drumming, once again ushering you towards circle pit territory. The vocals are kept insanely powerful here, not relying purely on sheer volume to drive the message home but instead adding in their own musical style to keep everything moving. The best part for me has to be the fast paced lyrics leading into the rolling double bass section, despite being at home writing this I felt like running around like a nutter just to match the music! Drop Down continues the funky approach and shows off the bands more nu-metal influences in style, spitting the lyrics out over jumpy backing music which is sure to get you moving once again. Sounding akin to the likes of Mudvayne at times, there’s something here which makes this sound like something you’ve heard before, keeping everything classic yet fresh if that makes sense! Severed and Silenced is further testament to this, once again adopting an incredibly powerful approach throughout after a quiet beginning, hinting that this could well be another track to watch out for in the future.
Receiving End of Bullets seems to take off exactly where the last track left off, once again fading the track into being through some intricate guitar work before launching into an all out assault on your ear drums. Heavy doesn’t seem to quite encapsulate the music going on here, it’s beyond a simplistic tag such as that. What you’ve got here is funky, heavy, melodic and yet hard hitting, in short – it’s a hell of a track! Fold on the other hand doesn’t mess around with any intros or anything like that, you’re just catapulted straight into a distorted melee of raw power and taken along for the ride. Once again throwing in melodic elements to make sure you’re still there and fully involved in the album, this is probably my personal favourite purely for it being such an accomplished track.
Thirty3 comes a close second for me, opening with rolling drums and hammering guitar lines, this is another moment which you’ve got to catch on the live scene if you get a chance, the music here suggests that this is going to be insane! Alternating the timings throughout the track also further develops this one into something beyond a simple tag, I would challenge anyone to put a simply tag on this as it’s quite simply too advanced. 7448 almost sets out to do better than before, once again opening heavy and throwing everything out at you, the vocals really steal the show here and craft a track which harks to an almost Incubus sound, although elevated to a whole new level of heavy, a level where you’re punched in the face then asked to thank them for the privilege – and it’s a good place to be!
S.H.I.A.B closes the album and does it in style, opening fast and heavy once again but still keeping that sense of melody throughout, if there’s ever been a track built for the live scene then this has to be it. The vocals are once again quite simply stunning, the mix kept bass heavy to make sure there’s a real sense of depth, and more of those rolling drums just to keep the circles moving. As a closing moment on an album this seems to fit the bill perfectly, allowing you to let loose once again for one last time and summing up everything which has come before it.
K-Lacura have got a lot of promise in my humble opinion, they’re one of those bands who on paper sound like just another band doing what lots have done before, but in practice are creating a sound which is fresh and exciting, and just what the world needs to hear. I wouldn’t be surprised to see these guys achieving some pretty awesome shows over the coming year once this album hits shelves, so be sure to keep an eye out for them and catch them soon!
