Karma Slave
Neil from Down The Machine put us onto a few bands when we
spoke, one of whom was Karma Slave. After much work and faffing about I’ve
finally gotten the chance to have a listen to their stuff to see what I
thought.
Do you know what I love about Sleaze Metal? No? Well, it’s that you pretty much know that what you’re going to get will get you tapping your feet, nodding your head and probably singing along after a couple of times – Karma Slave are a Sleaze Metal band from Leeds….ahh you can work the rest out!
Enslave is exactly this sort of track, it makes you tap your feet, it makes you move and it makes you want to sing along after listening to it a few times. Chucking a guitar solo in to accompany the sludgy dirty guitar line and solid drum bear, this track will have you nodding along within seconds. The chanting chorus ‘Enslave’ is memorable (through pure simplicity) which is perfect for this sort of track ,it becomes a chant!
Shotgun Shooter follows straight away ticking all of the right boxes as it opens. Grungy guitars, a lead line, pumping rhythms and that solid riff pushing the song ever forwards, again simplicity shows just how good something can be when it’s kept basic and straight forward. Following their recipe for success, this song features another solo and solid rhythm line which will have you nodding along and tapping your feet.
Whiskey Train finishes the selection of tracks on the FB page of the band, opening much like early Motley Crue this track sets the pace straight away, once again using pumping riffs and lead lines to push the track ever onwards. I couldn’t help but think of Social Distortion at times when listening to this track, mainly down to the vocals I think but there’s something there.
Karma Slave are simple, solid, sleazy dirty metal, so if you like that you’ll like this. I remember seeing Crue live years ago and thinking to myself, this is the best live show I’ve ever seen – this music works live and gets the audience moving. Hopefully seeing them live is something I’ll get the chance to do, just to hear some more of what’s on offer. As with other reviews, I’ve only heard 3 tracks to comment on, but based on these, I like the sound of what the band is doing!
