Kill The Weekend
We were recently contacted by Kill The Weekend to let us know about their EP which is due to be released on August 6th of this year, with touring scheduled around the release date. Describing themselves as Alternative Rock/Pop Punk, the guys have been on the go since 2009 but recently signed to Fifty7 Music, something which has given them further drive and determination to get their names out there. I figured that I’d check out a couple of their tracks to see what was in store and to prepare for their EP.
This Fire Feels Like Home opens the selection on the bands Facebook page and immediately shows that we’ve got a force to be reckoned with with these guys. Opening with a hammering guitar line over rolling drums, the mix seems to grow around you before launching full tilt onwards with some soaring vocal lines and a pummelling bass rhythm. Clearly orientated towards the punk-pop side of things, the music here isn’t offensive or over the top, instead forming a sound which is easy to listen to and allows you to immerse yourself within it, the mix echoing around you and keeping you on board for the ride. Throwing in a catchy chorus to make sure you’re still there, this is music which has been perfectly crafted for the live scene and shows that this is a band who are on track to achieving something pretty special.
Moving onto Next Time We Climb there’s further evidence that this is a band with a clear mission, this time opening with a sound which is more advanced, more considered and more intricate from start to finish. Throwing in syncopated beats over heavy backing moments, the track is one which is not only catchy and accessible, but also well formed and carefully crafted, meaning you’re left admiring both the songwriting and technical abilities of the band at the same time. This track left me seriously impressed, the different elements of it working in unison to create a track which features hammering guitar lines, soaring vocal moments and hooks which are going to convert the world over to the sound of this band.
Kill The Weekend have taken pop-punk and turned it on its head, offering in elements of alternative rock to keep the sound alive and crafting a sound which is impossible to resist. I hesitate to use the word infectious due to the negative conotations, but when this band are out there with their new EP there promises to be a world wide epidemic of people turning on to the sound, reaching out to the band and generally realising what damned good music sounds like – highly recommended.
