Kodakid - NEW
The chaps in Kodakid dropped us a line the other day to let us know about a remix of their track Portis, recently done by the Kantor Collectif, asking what we thought. Given that we’d checked them out before, I reckoned that we should see how things were looking!
There’s a real haunting quality to the track as it builds, using the bass heavy rhythms to form a sound that lures you in, gets you listening and allows you to feel the track running through you. The track is laid back and chilled, the sort of thing which will sit you back and allow you to listen, whilst at the same time pushing the boundaries of what you’d expect to hear from music of this style. Chucking a solid beat into the mix, this is one which is made for the darkness, the sort of music which can only truly be appreciated when you remove all other distractions and really focus, the sort of sound which is deep, powerful and hard hitting, yet chilled out and atmospheric. To put it simply, this is a track which is going to get you involved, and make you want to hear more.
Personally, I liked the original of this track, but this remix takes things to a whole new level, showing that a remix can sometimes fully accentuate everything that the track stands for. If you’re listening for something to accompany a chilled out moment, a moment where you can relax, or a moment where you simply want something to listen to – this is the track for you.

Kodakid - NEW!
We featured Kodakid a while back, so when they dropped us a line about their latest single, Portis, I was looking forward to seeing what was going on with things. Last time we checked them out, Aaron was pretty damned impressed with what he heard, so I figured it was my turn to see what was going on, so hit play on the new track to see whether their style was still the same as I remembered.
Soothing guitar lines combine with a bass heavy backing as the track gets going, forming into a sound which is deep, dark and powerful, the sort of thing which accompanies a slow motion walk through a dark club in a movie sequence. There’s something laid back and cool about the beginning of this track, the sort of thing which is going to sit you back, crank the volume up and simply let the track play out. Layered vocals continue to add a sense of depth to things, continuing to show off the abilities of a band that can craft tracks designed to work their way into your subconscious, the sort of thing which stays with you, keeps you coming back and keeps you listening. To me, this is chill out music, the sort of thing which goes hand in hand with sitting and chilling with friends, drinking a beer and simply enjoying what you’re hearing rather than getting up or going mad – definitely a sound which is going to work to keep you involved, and make you want to hear a hell of a lot more!
I remember when we first featured Kodakid, Aaron was raving about them, so I made a point of checking them out. Looking back now it’s easy to see why, they’re a band with a style which will work in different situations, a band which will continue to push the boundaries of what you think you know, and a band I hope to hear a hell of a lot more from moving forwards. If this track is anything to go by then the future is looking damned bright, damned bright indeed.

Kodakid
Kodakid are an Indie band from Waterford, Ireland. These four guys had a successful 2011 having released two single releases, a UK tour as well as numerous high profile gigs in some of Ireland's top venues. A new single is due to be released in February so 2012 is beginning as 2011 ended, on a very high note.
Low 7 was the first track that I came across. A melodic drum beats gets the ball rolling, easing you into the track. The introduction of a catchy guitar riff does little to change the mood; it’s all relaxed and chilled. Just what you would expect from a track of this nature. The vocals kick in adding a bit of spice and volume to the song. They sound fantastic and compliment the riffs and drum beat on show despite the contrasts between them. There are subtle tempo variations that work really well, slowing things right down until it’s just the raw, emotional vocals taking center stage where you can really begin to appreciate them. On the other hand, the riffs and drum beat are equally as sharp and well presented, combining to produce an addictive rhythmic sound.
Pray (For Some Luck) was the second track on the list. A contrasting beginning compared to Low 7 greets us, as it’s the guitars turn to throw a riff out to open proceedings. This ticks along at a steady pace for a short period until the vocals interrupt. They are as solid and easy on the ears as the previous track; they have a presence about them which runs deep into your soul. It isn't until the drums are put to use that the tempo picks up giving the track that Indie feel, they hit the spot perfectly pulsating on every beat. I can imagine these guys being awesome live, really taking the roof off the venues they are performing in.
And something a little special here. The band sent me the link to their new single Shake Skin. This track hasn't been released yet so I won't give too much away. If you like introductions with purpose, riffs that make you question your own sanity and tempo changes that leave you begging for more. Then be sure to keep your eye out for this new track. Things have definitely been taken to the next level.
Fresh pulsating riffs, impeccable vocals, addictive beats. This band has all three. Was a real pleasure to listen to these guys and can only agree with all the accolades they have received. Like I said I checked out the new track and things have got even better, be sure to show the guys some love on their Facebook page.
NEW TRACK – As I spoke about above, the guys from Kodakid sent me their new single through a while ago. The time has come to reveal the characteristics of the track for all to behold. Shake Skin opens with a slow rhythmic drum beat accompanied by similar paced vocals. Sat listening to this track, I picture it being on a Jack Daniels advert. The tempo and the way the words are sung just addicted me from the start; it’s an introduction with a purpose. The guitar riff soon kicks in; however it keeps in with the slow natured side to track despite having a sharp, heavy traditional rock n roll feel to them. Just as you settle into the rhythm the tempo steps up a gear taking proceedings to a new level, pushing the vocals to adapt to the changes which they manage with very little effort. A stinging guitar solo springs to life completely changing the face of the track; it takes proceedings by the scruff of the neck leading up to the finish line. As the solo ends, the forgotten, mellow feel to the track returns as the song draws to a close.
