Kromaxtyne - Interlude
We were recently contacted by the guys in Kromaxtyne about their new track, Interlude which is available on their SoundCloud page. Based on what we'd heard from these guys before, we figured it was only right to check out the new track to see how it stood up against their other stuff!
Opening electronic and disjointed at first, there's all sorts of things going on in this track which will catch you off guard, it's got an almost hip hop style beat backing up the synth at the forefront of the track whilst strange sounds back everything up. Breaking into an almost soothing atmospheric section of background sounds, everything seems to be building up to something - and then it breaks once again. The over all feel behind this track is like dubstep - it's got that feeling in the bass and drums which form a sort of dirty track, always suggesting that this could well just be the build up to something new, almost as an intro or (as the title might suggest) an interlude. As the track closes and the sample of Against The World kicks in, my personal feeling is that this is a taster, a sample if you will of what is to come next from these guys - and whilst it might not be the sort of thing I would normally listen to, Against The World seems to set everything up nicely - I can't wait to hear the full track!
I like Kromaxtyne as they're a band who do what they want to do, often defying the conventions which people assume bands have to stick to and instead creating music for them, music which is going to push the boundaries and make you question why you've not come across anyone doing this before. As such, Interlude and the sample of Against The World are testament to a band who can write tracks which don't fit a genre, they create their own, something which is pretty damned unique for sure!
I look forward to hearing what comes next from these guys......I really do!

Kromaxtyne
Kromaxtyne from Sheffield recently got in touch about their EP to see if we could chuck a review up on the site. Now, these guys describe themselves as a four piece Electronic/Industrial Metal band fusing D&B/Dubstep/Electronic and Industrial with Metal – intrigued? Me too!
As Devilish Intent kicks in I begin to understand things a bit more, sound almost akin to NIN at first, the sludgy undertones of bass soon kick in along with the dirty guitar riff, all underpinned by a solid drum beat and the track takes shape. Kicking in with a roar, the sound these guys have achieved (whether it’s a fusion or not) is immense. All of the elements combine to create a sound which is big, heavy, dirty and in your face whilst still sounding almost catchy throughout. Sounding like NIN at times, Ministry at others and Fear Factory at others, this track is one which will stay with you, there’s so much going on you’ll need to listen to it over again just to make sure you didn’t imagine any of it!
Mass Infection opens in much the same way, fading in to a dirty bass lick before kicking you in the face with pounding drums and roaring guitars. This track is much rawer than the previous, sounding far more like the heavier side of Pitchshifter used to achieve with the electronic influences. The pace doesn’t slow at any point during the track, constantly pushing heavier and faster than before, this track will once again make you listen to it over and over again just to make sure you’ve heard everything properly. My personal favourite part of the track is the middle section where everything slows down and becomes dark and damned heavy before kicking into an almost nu-metal style bouncy section, it’s something pretty damned awesome.
Final track Syn Drone opens much more melodic than the others, opting for some synth to lead into the track before bringing in those riffing guitars and pounding guitars again. Soundbytes act as little sections of the track, continuing to keep it alive and interesting along with the roaring vocals. This track is bound to be a success on the live scene if they can pull it off, the speed and progression of the track brings in some of their industrial influences and creates a monster of heaviness which somehow works along with the electronic effects.
Kromaxtyne are a band who have really caught me off guard. Normally when a band describes their sound they’re pretty spot on and you can generally know what to expect, but with these guys there is so much involved that I don’t know where to begin. The sound created by combining all of the elements is one which at first you’ll question but after a couple of listens you’ll realise is beyond anything you’ve heard before. The originality of it is the main contributing factor here I think, whilst I’ve compared them to other bands, their sound is unique to them. I can’t wait to hear what comes next from these guys as it promises to be something pretty damned special!
