Late Nite Show
Late Nite Show got in touch all the way from the good ol’ US of A about their music. This one is a slightly different approach to music than we’ve featured so far, leaning heavily on the pop-punk genre of music rather than metal. Now punk being one of my guilty pleasures, I thought it only fair to have a listen and make some comments!
We’ll Pop Your Punk/Read Between The Lines starts of with rolling drums before kicking into a sludgy guitar lick, straight away this track is catchy and will have you nodding along to the beat. Continuing to be catchy throughout, this track is what you would expect from this sort of band, easy to listen to and sure to lighten your mood after a long day. The down side here, when the vocals kick in, they dominate the track, this is down to the mix that’s all, providing you can get past that then it’s a solid, punky accessible track.
The Poopoodoodoocaca Song follows on, opening with a toilet based soundtrack and leading into a dogs bark (I don’t get that bit!), the song is straight away catchy with harmonised riffs and a solid backing beat. This song is everything a punky poppy song should be again, easy to listen to and inoffensive. Again though, the mix is all wrong on the vocals meaning when they kick in you struggle to hear what’s going on behind them (or I did through the headphones anyway).
Premonition opens catchy, jumpy and sounding good. The simple guitar lines with the rolling drums mean this is music which anyone can listen to without being offended by it, it’s just simple good pop-punk stuff. Featuring a catchy chorus again, with a proper studio session this song has the potential to be a real addition to an EP, something I really hope this band does.
Empty Handed (Demo) and Breaking Home (Demo) are both tracks without vocals, but both show serious promise. My personal favourite of all the tracks available from Late Nite Show is Breaking Homes, it’s such a catchy riff demonstrating the bands ability to write a catchy tune. The track reminds me of playing Burnout years ago and some of the tracks the game featured, maybe just me being nostalgic listening to the sort of music I listened to years ago (and still go back to occasionally when I want a break from metal!).
The selection of tracks if finished with Alice, Why Is A Raven Like A Writing Desk? (and the award for the weirdest name goes to….) – a track much like all the others, showing serious promise but lacking proper recording of the vocals leaving them echoey and over bearing in the track.
Now, I’m not saying I don’t like this band as I think there’s a lot of promise here, they remind me of a band called Brodie who I saw at the White Horse many moons ago, a band whose EP I still listen to from time to time. What is needed though is some recording time to sort the mix on these tracks out, once that’s done and everything is properly levelled what you’ll be left with will be a punky, jumpy, easily accessible record which I know people will like.
So there it is guys – sort out some recording time and sort those levels out!
