Little Vegas Lies
We were recently contacted by Maria from MJ Bookings about some bands which she is representing. The great thing about the three we’ve been sent through is the variety between them! Setting out on the first one, Little Vegas Lies, I figured I’d have a listen to what this 5 piece lively Northern Brit-Rock have to offer!
Domino opens up jumpy, sludgy yet somehow refined, the sound is well produced and immediately makes you want to move along with the band. As the vocals come in and the music is fully bolstered up by all of the elements, the track takes on an incredibly catchy tone and becomes a true brit-rock anthem. The lyrics are well written, the music well played and the whole track really works well as a track which you can happily crank on and sit back to. What I really liked about this track was the little intro section to the chorus part of the track, the lead line which ushers it into being and stays with it throughout the chorus really elevates the track further and makes it something you want to see performed live, just to make sure they can pull it off. Catchy from start to finish, this is a great introduction to a band from my perspective, it’s got the right combination of heavy combined with melodies meaning it’s accessible and not over the top by any means, it’s just an excellent song!
Hang Fire follows on next, opening reminiscent of the golden days of brit-rock with a slightly distorted guitar line and Oasis-esque vocal lines. Once again, there’s something about this track which really hooks you in and makes you want to hear more, this effect carries the track on and avoids that fast forward button as you wait to see how the track develops. Catchy once again, this is yet another track which is bound to slay crowds on the live scene, it’s the sort of song you want to sing along to regardless of who’s around! As it fades out and Set Me On Fire comes into being the pace seems to pick up. Opening bass heavy over a simple drum beat, the track gets you moving before anything has even really started. Melodic once again, this track is faster than the others but somehow softer as well, there’s a real sense of melody and harmony running through this track which keeps the listener engaged once again to find out what’s coming up. As the chorus kicks in the pace is revived again, kicking back into a sludgy melee of guitars and vocals over drums, the effect is not only catchy this time but also massive! This is possibly my favourite track off of the selection we were sent through and again, one which I think must work incredibly well on the live scene. For me though – this is a night time driving track, imagine the motorway flying by as this track plays and you’ll understand, it’s got that sort of edge to it.
Finishing the selection we’ve got Standing Room only, a track which opens showcasing all of the elements which have come before it from pounding drums through to soaring guitar lines. Almost syncopated in the beat it adopts, this track is once again almost more laid back than some of the other tracks which have come before it yet it still packs a punch. What’s been really striking through all of the tracks is how powerful these guys can make their music without needing to over use the distortion button, it’s just well written music which given the right attention, could well achieve anthemic status. As the track fades there’s a real sense of a journey being walked through the album, and if I’m honest I found myself going back and beginning all over again.
I really like the music that Little Vegas Lies have put together, it’s laid back enough to be accessible yet pacey enough to keep fans of the heavier side of things engaged. The tracks are well written and well produced so what you’re left with is downright melodic music which you can put on, sit back and simply enjoy. I’m looking forward to hearing what comes next from these guys as well, as based on these tracks here, they’re on the right path!
