Million Dollar Reload
A band which was started up from the heart of Northern Ireland, these five guys has come a long way to get to where they are today. Having all started off in aspiring yet unsuccessful bands, they have come through the Belfast pub circuit to play festivals such as Download in 09 & 11, Hard Rock Hell festival in 09 &11 and supported the legendary Alice Cooper in Dublin. A band with this kind of stature is confirmed by the huge following they have amassed on their Facebook page alone. Inspired by Rock and Roll greats from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, I was foaming at the mouth to unravel the guys stuff and see what they had to offer.
I got on to YouTube and checked out some of the guy’s videos, there were a few to choose from so I picked a random selection. Livin In The City was the first video I came to, a catchy guitar riff is backed by subtle tapping, giving the start that extra snap. Old school rock vocals are let out of its cage, clawing at your ears making sure they have your full attention. There’s a nice tempo to the piece and I found myself tapping away, following the solid guitar riff, supported well by a hearty drum beat. Quality oozes out of every single beat, riff and lyric and is hardly surprising they have played such prestigious festivals. It’s not long before you’re singing along to the chorus and playing air guitar along to the mind controlling tune. The track has many different layers, acting as building blocks allowing it to progress. The changes in tempo, different hooks and damn right dirty vocals all blend together to make a cocktail of total brilliance.
Degeneration was the next track I managed to get my grubby little mitts on. A thunderous drum beat gets proceedings underway. It’s not long before a face melting guitar riff, takes hold of the track, unwilling to let you out of its grasp followed by the familiar raw, soaring vocals. Once again there’s a really catchy tune, makes me wanna grab a beer, crack it open and forget about all the problems in the world. The small guitar solos add different dimensions to the track, leading you off in one direction before pulling you back into the main hub of action. I liked this track because it was easy to get carried along in the current, everything seems to flow naturally and is easy on the ear, however, still keeping that rock and roll edge, which penetrates the heart deep. The tempo to this track stays pretty steady throughout; I think the balance is ideal, nothing gets left behind of drowned out which can sometimes happen.
And the finally, The Last Icon was the final track I picked. A melodic guitar riff supported by a steady, passionate drum beat kicks things off. There’s a sympathetic feel to the track which is perfect considering the track is a tribute. The vocals took me back a bit, they are different from the previous two tracks as they are less raw and more Bon Joviesque, but I loved it! It seems that there are no limitations for these guys; the ability to adapt and still produce top quality stuff is not something to be scoffed at. Never the less, Million Dollar Reload does it as if its second nature to them. The lyrics are strong and powerful and having a under lying meaning, it always makes them settle on the brain easier. Once again the guitar riffs are impeccable and the Bon Joviesque illusion is soon shattered as the raw, violent vocals come back into play, taking the track to a new level.
I don’t think there is much I can say about these seriously talented guys that hasn’t already been said. However I’m just going to reiterate the accolades they have received. It’s no wonder they have played big festivals such as Download, the sky is the limit for Million Dollar Reload and I’m pretty sure they will get their just rewards soon enough.
