Mind Museum
Garry from SAN PR recently dropped us a line about Bristol based Mind Museum, and their new single and video Lie To Me. Drawing influence from the likes of Biffy Clyro and Foo Fighters, these South West guys are primed to hit the scene and make one hell of an impact. Having already released two EP’s, both of which have received critical acclaim, as well as touring with the likes of Young Guns, Twin Atlantic and The Royal Republic, and having had their video for Rat Race featured on Kerrang! TV, these guys are set to break, so now’s the time to get on board! I figured that the best way to check things out was to hit play and see what was going on.
Opening with emotionally laden vocals accompanied by soft and soothing guitars, the mix on offer here is one which is going to get inside your head and ask you to listen, showing what a band can do when they understand the mix they’re going for. Despite the laid back approach which gets things going, we’re soon thrown into an upbeat melee of hammering guitar lines, roving bass rhythms and a drum section which keeps the whole mix tight throughout. To me, there’s a real sense of Coheed and Cambria in the vocals on offer here at times, as well as a hint of the Lost Prophets in the gang vocal sections, building the mix into something deep and powerful as well as melodic and accessible. As an introduction to a band this does the job for sure, immediately getting your attention and asking you to check out what they’ve got on offer – and when you do you won’t be disappointed. Melodic and emotionally charged from start to finish, my only words moving forwards are I want to hear more – there’s a lot of promise here.
I’ve always been a fan of Biffy Clyro (think I first saw them in 2001) and the Foo Fighters (2002 London Astoria secret gig….amazing), and with Mind Museum I’ve found myself once again excited by the sound a band have got on offer. From emotionally charged vocal sections through to a raucous guitar solo, this track has it all, and shows that this is a band we need to be keeping an eye on. If you look into a new band this week, make it Mind Museum, you won’t be disappointed!
