Mishkin
We were put onto Mishkin by Neil from Down The Machine. Now I'm one to listen to musicians when it comes to bands as normally, they've got solid opinions which can be backed up by what you discover. On this occasion, Mr Short, you under sold the band you put us on to - ladies and gentlemen, check out Mishkin
Good Day To Die is a pumping, loud, fast, funky, heavy and downright quality track to listen to if you want to hear who Mishkin are. Launching from the heavy verse into a catchy and melodic chorus, this track ticks just about every box on every list and will begin the conversion process for anyone who hasn’t heard of this band before. Progressing from section to section, the track builds up to an almighty break-down around the 2 minute mark which leads into a solo….another box or two ticked! Finishing the track with the catchy chorus again, this track will leave you wanting more….and luckily there’s more to come!
Waiting For The World To Change opens softly, with atmospheric sounds and clean guitars matched by the clean and soft vocals layered over drums. As a contrast to how the last track finished, this is the other end of the spectrum! As the song properly kicks in though once again you’re treated to the expertly handled guitar work again, layered with other effects in the back ground pushing the song ever onwards, before dropping down to the clean vocals again. Even after listening to the track only once I found myself singing along with ‘Tomorrow this will become all our problem’ mainly because it’s so damned catchy! Leading into a solo, this track seems to go from strength to strength, definitely one to have a listen to and my personal favourite from the selection.
The Lesson and Elevate are also available on the bands Facebook page, although they are from earlier EP’s instead of their ‘Row Away From The Rocks’ released in June. The tracks prove an interesting listen if you get a chance, purely because they demonstrate where the band has come from, but the two tracks firstly are testament to just how far they have come since then.
Now, I’m off to listen to the rest of the album (once I get my grubby little mits on it!) and I recommend that all of you out there check out the tracks on their page. I know I’m accused of being too nice sometimes, but this band really do have something pretty special and I for one will be trying to catch them in Leeds this summer!
