Mister Niceguy (formerly Jago55)
This band from
Manchester doesn’t give too much away on their Facebook page. Sometimes it can
be a good thing, sometimes it can be a bad thing. I prefer to think it’s
usually a good thing as there’s clearly something amazing going on here that
they want us to find out for ourselves! I chose a random selection of tracks from
the guy’s page and here’s what I thought.
Drowned was the first track on the list, so I thought there’s no better place to start. A scratchy guitar riff starts the ball rolling before thunderous drums and raw, soaring vocals fill your eardrums. Things fly along rapidly, the tempo menacing, the beats heavy and the vocals dark. The tempo then half’s in pace and you find yourself in the eye of the storm, preparing for battle. The drums are rolling and hit deep, chanting vocals are accompanied by stinging guitar riffs, building the pressure. Distorted guitars seem to have free range here and take over as the rest of the track becomes insignificant.
The hunt begins with no holds barred. Some ground shaking drums and evil guitars, tear your face off, showing no mercy. The riff changes and your left with a pounding beat before the vocals kick in and take the track to the next level. The tempo switches between fast and overdrive, keeping you on your toes and begging for more. Even the lyrics switch between fast and slow. There are so many different layers to the track; it ends up looking like Frankenstein’s monster, however, towards the end it just takes off. The lyrics fade away leaving the forever pounding drums and spine tingling guitar riffs to battle it out until the death.
The third track I listed to was Caged. Just like the previous two tracks the tempo is frightening. The cocktail of drums, guitars and vocals is mind-blowing, knocking you into a surreal world of hurt. Although there are many similarities between the previous tracks, this one has a very subdued midsection, where the tempo completely slows down, allowing you to snap back to reality. Drawn out guitar riffs and slower but just as heavy drumming ease the mind. I liked this part of the track as it adds a whole new dimension to the track and shows a bit of variation. The lyrics are again very dark and mix well with the genre.
And last but not least The Procrastinator, this was my favourite track of the lot. A choir like echo surrounds you at the start, quickly being joined by a fast paced guitar riff that is carried along on a wave of punchy, hard hitting drums. The lyrics interrupt the intimacy between the latter, cutting deep, and wedging themselves into your mind. The contrast between the roaring vocals and the deep lying yet standard rock style vocals is huge. Once again there is a sense of freedom for the guitarists to play and experiment at will. Every riff and every drum beat crash into your body at 100mph, making sure that you don’t miss a thing.
I liked what I heard a lot. There’s definitely a lot of talent going on there and given the right advice and that all important slice of luck, I can see the guys going places. There are more tracks to check out on the bands Facebook page so don’t be shy!
UPDATES – Well here we are again! After taking a look at a few of the guys tracks previously, us here at Loud-Stuff thought it was about time that we updated all you amazing people with a few more to keep you on your toes. Perimeter Deactivated was the first track that I plugged in and listened too. An earth shattering start greets us, pinning you to your seat in an instant. The riff being thrown in your face is chilling and heavy. Devilish vocals kick in for a short time until a barrage of riffs and face breaking drum beats assume control of the track. It’s almost something out of a Dream Theatre track, where despite having very few vocals you are left intrigued by the storyline that the varied riffs and beats are spitting out. The tempo throughout is menacingly fast, relentlessly pounding away at your chest unwilling to let you breathe. An impressive way to jog the memory I’d say.
Harold was the second and final track left to look at. At over six minutes long I was either going to get a six minute rollercoaster of doom, where riffs were kicking out at a frantic pace and the beats and vocals were so raw you could almost see the blood running out of them or it was going to be a six minute rollercoaster of gloom. By god it was a rollercoaster of doom! The familiar bone crunching riff gets proceedings underway, aptly combined with raging vocals which chill you to your inner core. The tempo isn’t quite as fast as the previous track, however the way the track is structured it works even better. The riff fades away leaving a menacing drum beat to tease us, the riff builds back up, the tension growing with every waking second, picking up speed along the way. Just as you think the track has plateaued, it erupts to life once again. These tracks definitely have Dream Theatre written all over them, all be it a heavier version but they work superbly.
