Molly Leigh - the new EP - Through The Whiskey Glass
These guys came to us at Loud-Stuff early this year, we took a look at the material they were feeding the metal world and were thoroughly impressed. At the end of the review I asked if the band could evolve what they are producing, incorporating new sounds and variations to their work. Here’s what I thought of their new EP.
As soon as the Prologue (A Reign Of Terror) began I could already see that the guys had taken things to the next level. Despite it not being an out and out track, the melodic nature to the riffs and the slightly more forgiving vocals pull you close to a false sense of security.
I Worship The Ground I Buried You In has a much more familiar Molly Leigh feel to it. The riffs on offer are very hard hitting, puncturing the skin and eating away at the exposed flesh. The guys have kept the solid foundations that were a focal point to the previous successful tracks. The charismatic riffs are evident again in the other tracks such as They're Coming For You (Barbara). Anyone remotely interested in rock n roll and metal will appreciate the devilish nature to each track individually. The vocals are very solid throughout the EP, they continue to surge along, carrying on where the last released tracks finished.
Long Road home was the final track on the EP. A rip roaring guitar riff gets the ball rolling; despite this riff tearing your face off the rest of the track seems to die down slightly. However with the addition of the soaring vocals and intense drum beat, the track still manages to hold a really heavy feel and the lighter riff goes unnoticed as the vocals take control. The variations in tempo during the track push and pull you around like a rag doll, never letting you settle. For me this track epitomizes the fact the guys have taken things to the next level and are progressing at a rapid pace.
Each track on offer here provides something different for you to admire. The way the tracks are crafted and sculpted means you can listen to any track and feel right at home. It’s good to see that the solid foundations that were in place before are still intact and are the driving force behind what is all in all a juggernaut of an EP.

Molly Leigh
This band is a hardcore rock n roll/metal band from the midlands. These five guys formed in August 2010 producing hard-core Rock 'n' Roll with a bit of Metal thrown in for good measure, no frills, and no gimmicks. Just riffs and good times! I took a moment to check out some of the guy’s tracks, I chose four tracks leaving one more for you to check out at your own leisure.
Pretty Poison (the bands latest single off of their upcoming EP) starts with a heavy and downright dirty guitar riff. Hoarse and scratchy vocals come to life alongside a thumping drum beat. A second set of vocals take over; these are a lot softer in comparison, however, still keeping within a metal style. These work effectively adding a different edge and dimension to the track. The tempo to the track is mind blowing and given the addition of a bloody curdling guitar solo, you are taken on a hellish rollercoaster to hell and back. The guys have definitely practised what they preached with this opener. (you can see the video to this track below).
Priceless was the second track I chose. Once again you are thrown into a cyclone of musical abuse straight from the start. An insanely catchy, yet hard hitting riff drips feeds your brain, teasing you of what’s to come. The tempo varies throughout the track, often going from light speed, dropping down a gear to frantic before revving up again and knocking it back to light speed. The vocals are in the same fashion as the previous track, the solid, raw vocals marshal the track, aptly accompanied by its soldiers, that being the thumping drums and the bone crunching guitars.
This House Is Clear has a heavy hitting start with a twist. A short guitar and drum duel leads to the tempo fading to the slowest it’s been. Supported superbly by the less raw vocals of the two, it’s nice to see a little bit of variation being thrown about. These guys have a real talent of playing with your emotions during tracks, simply by changing the tempo and varying the vocals. You never really get settled on one set of vocals or on one tempo and I really liked this about the track. Three quarters the way through there’s a decent guitar riff different to the others, leading to a frantic, rolling drum beat to finish proceedings.
The last track that I got my hands on was called The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea. Yes its bit of a mouthful but it’s also a bit of a beast! A destructive drum beat is the heartbeat of this track; it sets the ball rolling and is prominent throughout. However the track wouldn’t function as a whole without a tantalising guitar riff that’s catchy and full of purpose. This was by far my favourite track. There are many layers to this track which have been added to the hellish drum beat foundations that were set. This is metal at its best and is a serious mash up. Again the changes in tempo frolic with the mind and the whole dynamics of the track are summed up by what can only be described as a hero’s guitar riff half way through when things slow down.
Despite not being my usual type of band, I was really impressed with these guys. They have a lot going for the them, I’d like to see if they can adapt to other genres, but at the end of the day they are a metal band putting out an addictive sound, people want to hear! Don’t forget to check out the last track on the bands Facebook page.
