Motörhead
A while back we were informed of a Motorhead collection featuring some of their classic albums, which we thought was pretty cool – but we recently got wind of a new boxset, this time covering the complete early years of the band and enclosed in a stylised tin, so needless to say we were more than a little excited. The wonderful people over at Prescription PR dropped us a link so we could have a sneak preview of what to expect, and we weren’t disappointed.
There’s going to be very few people around the world that haven’t heard of Motorhead in one way or another, they’re one of those bands that appeal to metal heads and parents equally due to their unique style of rock music, energetic stage show, and the one and only Lemmy at the helm of the band. Having seen them perform live twice, I can vouch for their ability to take to a stage, capture 100% of the attention of the crowd, play louder than anyone else ever, and walk off with their heads held high, knowing that everyone was singing along to every single track which they played.
The new boxed set is an extension of this in a way, offering fans the chance to own the early years of Motorhead history and sample the tracks which the band are known and loved for. Featuring all of the classics you would expect such as Overkill, Motorhead, White Line Fever, Jailbait and of course, Ace Of Spades, this is a collection of tracks which showcases a band that have literally been around as long as metal itself. Listening through the tracks it’s easy to see why the band have stood the test of time, as the tracks sound just as fresh and exciting as the first time I heard them, standing Motorhead out as one of the few bands that are genuinely timeless in their music.
There’s going to be people out there that say ‘what’s the point when I could buy the albums’, especially when the price is going to be relatively high for this collectors piece, but to them I would say you’ve missed the point. The whole point of releases like this is to own a piece of history, something which the band have had a hand in designing and making, and something which not a lot of other people will actually own. Personally, I’ll be getting a copy even if only for the stylised tin in which its housed, and that’s before I even get into the music!
In short, this is a solid release from a band that we wouldn’t expect anything less of. They’re not going down the path of Kiss where in we’re going to be seeing Motorhead branded everything, instead they’re releasing a collection that fans will love, people will want, and will showcase the reasons why we still love Motorhead as much as we do today.

Motörhead
When it comes to Motörhead you pretty much know what you’re in for from the off. Having built a reputation as one of the loudest bands on the live scene, and an unfaltering dedication to their craft, Lemmy’s crew are without a doubt one of the forefathers of modern metal, a band who we need to salute and thank for their contributions over their years together.
In order to celebrate these accomplishments, Sanctuary Records (Universal Music) have released a selection of 6 of their albums in a boxed set format, providing old and new fans with a chance to get hold of some of the finest Motörhead material out there. Offering 6 classic albums as the original masters and housing them in gate-fold replica wallets with the original artwork, this is a work of art as well as a selection which will prove to be the perfect introduction to one of the greatest metal bands in the world. The albums featured in this mammoth collection are-
· Overkill
· Bomber
· Ace Of Spades
· No Sleep ‘Till Hammersmith
· Iron Fist
· Another Perfect Day
So what does this mean I hear you asking? What this means is that for the first time ever, audiences can get hold of a copy of each of these albums in one package, providing you with a Motörhead album for every mood, every season and every possible moment.
Throughout the collection we’re treated to moments such as Overkill – a track which still sounds as blisteringly heavy today as it did back in 1979, with the rolling drum line, pounding bass rhythms and soaring guitars, anyone who doesn’t start hammering out some air guitar to this has something wrong with them! Bomber is another massive track, demonstrating that there’s more to Motörhead than simply hard aggressive music, offering us an insight into their funky edge and throwing down with a selection of groove laden riffs from start to finish.
Move into the realms of Iron Fist and it’s clear where Motörhead really found their footing, throwing out a riff similar to that of the Ace Of Spades but resulting in another track which s going to have you chanting along with the track. What’s most striking about the boxed set though is the live tracks, which demonstrate exactly why you need to see these guys on the live scene if you’ve never managed it. You only need to check out (We Are) The Road Crew (Live) to bear witness to the sheer power of this band on the live front, the recording managing to capture the pure energy flowing out of the band which is sure to whip live crowds into a frenzy. My only personal warning – be prepared for it to be very, very loud!
Other high points on the selection are Shine, a track which rates amongst the best tracks from Motörhead in my humble opinion, and of course the inevitable Ace Of Spades, a track which differentiates these guys from most heavy metal bands out there simply because everyone knows it. In short, what you’ve got here is a collection of classic albums and classic tracks, all of which will renew your faith in the world of metal and of course, remind you just why you fell in love with Motörhead when you did.
