Mutant Lion Massacre - Foxhound
As an update to the tracks we featured before, the guys in Mutant Lion Massacre were good enough to get in touch to let us know about a new track from their upcoming album (due out April 20th – which is also incidentally my 30th Birthday…..so I want a copy as a present mmkay!) so we could check it out – Ladies and Gentleman, I give you Foxhound.
Opening with a dark and ominous vocal line talking of a nuclear take over, terrorist demands and a potential nuclear attack, but all of this soon fades into a track of sheer power and energy – it’s almost a shock at first. Full to the brim with roaring vocal lines, rolling drum lines and pinch harmonics, straight away there’s a suggestion that this could be a hell of a heavy journey! Breaking down from what was already something insanely heavy into something which is somehow even heavier, before once again picking up the pace and hurtling onwards, there’s no release from this track from the moment it begins until the second it comes to a close, certainly not one for the fans of softer stuff.
Throughout the track there’s different elements going on, each one adding something different to the track and keeping you listening so as to find out exactly what’s coming up next. The mix which you end up with is not only all out heavy, but also interesting and intriguing as it leads from moment to moment. Don’t go into this track expecting a conventional metal track which starts, gets all shouty and then finishes, there’s far more to this than that. What you’ve got is a track made up of different movements, each movement showcasing something a little different but all working as a whole to form a track which is going to quite simply, blow your mind.
This is just the first track off of the new album and personally I can’t wait to see what comes next when the album as a whole is ready – these guys are definitely one to watch!

Mutant Lion Massacre
There’s some seriously good music in and around Cornwall, and I’m lucky enough to live down here! Mutant Lion Massacre are a prime example of this – a band who work hard to get their name out there, get heard and be seen – so the least I figured I could do was try and help a little bit!
Opening with Into The Massacre – St Valentines Day Massacre you’re suddenly confronted with a faded in riff of epic proportions, rolling drums and a solid bass line – the mix creates a noise which is absolutely massive – and this is before the vocals kick in! As the vocals come in, everything darkens off and the guttural roaring takes the lead. Adding in effects in the vocals from time to time to fade them out or bring them forward, the mix you end up with is insanely heavy vocals, pounding music and tracks which you find yourself wanting to turn up louder and louder – these guys must be killing venues on the live scene.
The Last Emperor Of the East follows on, opening with more of those soaring riffs and rolling drums which made the first track so heavy. Bringing in the vocals once again, the track takes form and descends into the realms of heaviness. All of a sudden though, this track takes an unexpected turn as some cleaned up vocals are brought in contrasting the roaring, adding a new dimension to the track and really powering up the track to its full potential. Throwing in some lead lines to close the track, this is probably my personal favourite from the selection on the bands Facebook page, it’s got so many elements going on but works so so well! As The Divide kicks in, everything calms down and you’ll find yourself embracing a slowed down acoustic line with a little picked lead but over the top – it’s a massive contrast against the heaviness before it. Don’t get too accustomed to it though as soon enough you’re thrown back into the put with full force, this time leading the way with a lead line over the backing sludgy guitars – the effect gives this track another level onto it, adding in power which hasn’t come out in the other tracks. Once again using the drums to really lead the way, setting the pace rolling and hammering everything home, this is a track which I can only imagine is awesome on the live scene.
Pray For Rain is up next, opening with more of those lead lines then layering them up with those rolling drums and roaring vocals, once again throwing you face first into a circle pit before making you realise how awesome the whole experience has just been. The drums really steal the show on this track for me though, rolling, fast and varying throughout keeping the beat changing and interesting, it’s some serious stuff. As the track finishes and closing track Degredation kicks in, once again the guitars take the lead and everything becomes very dark and very heavy. Throwing lead lines into the mix to add in a soaring melody to proceedings, this track will leave you wanting more and wandering why it is you’ve not heard of these guys before – their music is heavy beyond belief but works on so many levels.
Cornish Bleddy Deathcore My Ansome is the message on their bandpage, and I agree. Cornwall has got some awesome bands coming out and these guys are amongst the few who are really leading the way. Get out there and check these guys out as soon enough, you’re going to be hearing about them!
