Our Famous Dead - Claws At The Door
We featured Our Famous Dead a while back so when we were sent through their new single, Claws At The Door, due to be released on the 2nd of July, I jumped at the chance to hear what they’ve been up to. Having been developing their sounds and touring with the likes of Gallows, Funeral For A Friend and The Blackout, these guys seem to be headed to somewhere very very cool – so what of the new single!
Claws At The Door is testament to why these guys are receiving the acclaim which they are, opening with an electronic sound which builds into the roaring vocals. Despite the all out heavy approach which gets things going, there’s soon a serious does of melody, moving the track towards the more accessible side of things yet remaining all out heavy behind the scenes. The combination of heavy with electronic is something which these guys can do well, managing to combine both elements into something which you can hear everything of and still want to hear more and more.
For me, the most striking thing about the band is how they’ve taken their influences and developed their own sound from there, not allowing themselves to copy other bands but allowing their influences and the like to show – something which a lot of bands don’t seem to be able to do!
In all, what you’ve got here is a single which is going to stand these guys in damned good stead, get them some more recognition and some new fans along the way – well worth checking out!

Our Famous Dead
We were put onto Our Famous Dead by Garry at SAN PR. Always on the look out for new and interesting bands I thought it only right to have a listen!
Rate My Hate opens with electronic synth sounds – but don’t be deceived. Suddenly the most almighty riff kicks in featuring screamed vocals, pounding drums and bass heavy undertones. As the vocals layer over each other and the riff carries onwards the track takes the form of Pendulum on heat, this is such a mash up of rock, metal and electronic music that you can’t help but sit and listen to it a few times over before you’ve really grasped what’s going on. Gang vocals, melodic harmonies and in your face screaming, this track has it all and I suspect will turn even the most dedicated metal fan to their sound.
The Great and Inevitable (Change) follows on, opening electronic again (although much sludgier than before) before once again kicking in with a riff and some gang vocals. Catchy from the outset, this track is more harmony laden than Rate My Hate but somehow still keeps that raw edge to it. Moving between bouncy vocals and more straight forward singing, the contrasts created within this track help to power it onwards keeping it interesting from start to finish.
As if to add a whole new dimension to things, Untitled kicks in with a piano setting the tempo slow before moving into an almost thrashy section, spitting vocals and roaring guitars taking the lead. Just to make sure you’re paying attention though, the band soon move into an almost punky styled chorus section featuring sung vocals backed by numerous levels of backing voices creating a massive sound. Akin to Zebra Head in some ways this track is probably my personal favourite from the selection as it demonstrates so much skill and ability from the band, they’re able to create a sound which alternates between numerous genres then throws in a mad guitar solo just to twist it even more.
Final track Untitled Part 2 follows the lead of the previous track, opening slowly before kicking into a high speed section. More electronic than the previous track, this one still has all the raw rock elements within it but twisted into the bands own unique take on things. Moving into an emotionally heavy chorus section the band once again create an absolutely huge sound which I have to say they can fully claim as their own. Rolling bass and roaring guitars contrast against electronic elements and create something I’ve never heard before, it’s an odd combination at first as both elements are so strong, but it works!
The reason I set up this site was to give bands some promo and to hear new music, and a band like this is the optimisation of that wish. On paper I don’t think I’d have gone for them as I tend to steer away from electronic and rock combos, but these guys have done something special here. Their sound is unique, it’s unrelenting, raw and heavy, and I for one think it’s excellent to hear!
