Our Reflections
Our Reflections were good enough to get in touch about their new video so we could have a peek and check out their song accompanying it.
Distance and Horizons opens with rolling drums and building guitars along with some synth to add an extra element of darkness to the mix. As the track breaks down and kicks in the vocals power the track forward, heavy and roaring from the outset this is some serious stuff. As the band jump around using different beats to add depth to the track, suddenly the chorus kicks in providing a complete contrast to everything before. The chorus is laden with piano and clean vocals, which when put up against the verse provides this amazing contrast (which at first was a bit of a shock). Moving back into the heavier section again, pinch harmonics and heavy riffs once again power the track forward, adding to the already heavy track and making it heavier. Ending on a completely different note, the track finishes clean and melodic using the piano once again to end the story.
Make sure you check out the video which accompanies this track as well as the two combined work amazingly well together (below…).
As this track kicked in from this band I found myself thinking ‘jesus this is heavy’, and I stand by that. Our Reflections have taken on a different approach though and added in some seriously melodic elements which move away from the heavy and more towards the classically trained – something which a lot of bands try to do but don’t necessarily achieve. Surprising from start to finish, I’ve a feeling that this is a band I’m going to revisit again and again.
